Course Descriptions Past, Present & Future of Professional Practice Evaluation

This session will briefly review the history of profes-

sional practice evaluation and then move into a facil-

itated conversation about current best practices. The

presentation will finish with future options for medi-

cal staff professionals to meet and exceed regulatory

compliance.

At the conclusion of this session the attendee will

have a basic understanding of the purpose and pro-

cesses associated with ongoing and focused profes-

sional practice evaluation:

1) Describe the differences between OPPE and

FPPE;

2) Understand at least two of the best practices being

utilized for professional practice evaluation; and

3) Describe future options for professional practice

evaluation.

Change Happens: Leading Yourself & Others Through Change This will present two different perspectives (personal

and professional) on 15 principles of dealing with

change.

Included are key lessons on overcoming resistance to

change, leading change, communicating and over-

coming fear of change, and more.

Learning how to respond effectively to upcoming

changes will allow you to turn challenges into oppor-

tunities.

Legal Considerations in Hospital Credentialing Discussion with a community hospital General

Counsel of the legal considerations involved with

credentialing providers for hospital privileges.

At the conclusion of this session, the attendee will:

1) Understand the role of hospital counsel in connec-

tion with credentialing;

2) Understand legal/risk implications of hospital cre-

dentialing;

3) Understand where credentialing fits into hospital

organization and Conditions of Participation;

4) Understand the importance of clear and unambig-

uous by-laws describing credentialing standards; and

5) Exposure to strategies to handle challenging cre-

dentialing issues

True Confessions: I was a Disruptive Physician. The MSP’s Guide to Deal-ing with Doctors Like Me! This will be an interactive session that will identify

the root causes of disruptive physician behavior and

to provide effective strategies for dealing with these

behaviors.

At the conclusion of this session the attendee will:

1) Have a greater understanding of the causes of dis-

ruptive physician behavior;

2) Have tools for dealing with disruptive physician

behavior;

3) Understand how to communicate with disruptive

physicians; and

4) Say that this is the best session that they have ever

attended!

Speaker Bio’s Juli Maxworthy, DPN Juli Maxworthy DNP, MSN/

MBA, RN, CNL, CPHQ, CPPS,

CHSE, FSHH is an Assistant

Professor at the University of

San Francisco and the Chair of

the Healthcare Innovation and

Leadership Department along

with being the Director of the

BSN to DNP Program. Her last

clinical position was that of Vice

President of Quality and Risk. She has had oversight of medical

staff services in several of her clinical roles. She is the CEO of

her own healthcare consulting company WithMax Inc. She has

published three books on the topic of OPPE/FPPE. She is

interested in the opportunities of professional practice evaluation

utilizing healthcare simulation as a means to demonstrate pro-

vider competencies for low volume procedures.

Dr. Maxworthy has spoken locally, regionally and internationally.

She has published several other textbooks, chapters and arti-

cles on varying health related topics.

Robert Seibel, JD Mr. Seibel is an accomplished attorney-leader with over 35 years of experience providing high level of legal services to healthcare clients, including first chair jury trials, appellate litiga-tion, government regulation, managing outside counsel, high-er education, privacy, technology transactions, business leader-ship, and alternative dispute res-olution. Successfully responsible for leading change, build-ing coalitions, and assembling and motivating high-performing teams. He graduated from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA with a BA in Law Enforcement, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron School of Law, Akron, OH. Mr. Seibel is currently the General Counsel at Yuma Regional Medical Center and is a licensed attorney in Arizona (in-house), Missouri, Illinois, Georgia, and Ohio (inactive); and a Certified Civil Mediator.

Stephen Lazoritz, MD

Stephen Lazoritz, M.D. is the Medical Director for WellCare of Nebraska. He graduated from the State University of New York a t Bu f fa l o(SUNYAB) with a BA in Sociol-ogy and from medical school also from SUNYAB , and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Portsmouth, Virginia Naval Regional Medi-cal Center, and served in the United States Navy for 7 years and the United States Army for 4 years. Previously he served as medical director of child advocacy cen-ters in Buffalo, N.Y. and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later was the Vice President of Medical Affairs at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, NE. Subsequently he was a consultant dealing with disruptive physician behavior, and has served as the Chief Medical Officer at the Omaha Military Entrance Processing Sta-tion. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a certified Physi-cian Executive (CPE). Dr. Lazoritz is the co-author of “Out of the Darkness: The Story of Mary Ellen Wilson” and “Case Number One: the Mary Ellen Wilson Files”, two books on the origins of the child protection movement in America, and “The Shaken Infant Syndrome: A multidisciplinary Approach”, as well as more than 30 journal articles.
