The goal of this workshop is to give people information on different first aid situations they may encounter whilst looking after children and how to deal with them. It also looks at how to recognise and respond to serious medical conditions and injuries. Bookbug Pirate Pack Training The Bookbug Pirate Pack has been designed to support children’s love of books and encourage their first attempts at writing and drawing. It is gifted to children at the age of three via their nursery. This course aims to show staff how the Bookbug Pirate Pack can be integrated into the practice of Early Years settings. Research shows us that in order to impact on parents’ behaviour and encourage them to read at home with their child, the Bookbug packs need to be gifted effectively and parents need to be involved in the process. The Bookbug Pirate Pack is an effective tool offering strong links with Curriculum for Excellence. We will discuss how it can be used to support Early Level experiences and outcomes.

West of Scotland Interagency Child Protection Procedures All children have a fundamental right to proper care and protection. Children may need protection when their basic needs such as food and warmth are neglected or they may need protection from harm from other people. These West of Scotland Child Protection Inter-agency procedures are for all staff working within the West of Scotland Consortium areas. Everyone has a duty and responsibility to protect all children from harm. These procedures are to assist staff in identifying indicators which might suggest that a child is being abused or is at risk of abuse, advise what steps should be taken if there are concerns about a child, and describe what happens once concerns have been reported. The procedures also outline initial enquiries and investigations, Child Protection meetings and conferences and the range of possible resulting actions and outcomes.
