Dr. Neil GajjarBSc, DDS, MAGD, FADI, FPFA, FICD, Cert. IV Sedation

Dr Gajjar lectures on managing medical emergencies in the dental office, has been a lecturer of oral pathology and clinical instructor at the Canadian Academy Of Dental Hygiene and has a served as a clinical instructor in the Oral Diagnosis and Emergency clinics at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry. Dr Gajjar is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, a fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and a fellow of the International College of Dentists. He has served on the Disciplines Committee, QA Committee, Councillor and currently serves on the PLP Committee of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. He is a clinical examiner for the NDEB, President elect of the AGD and is certified in IV sedation and serves as the official dentist for the Miss India Canada Pageant and Suhaag Publication Group.

Course Outline:

Dr Gajjar will review the steps to follow when you encounter a medical emergency in your office. A recertification of CPR for health care providers will be offered as well as the use of an AED for targeted responders. Yearly CPR renewal is required for all office staff and this course presents an excellent opportunity for members of the dental office to stay current with the new changes in CPR protocol. Due to changes in heart and stroke protocol, participants will need to provide their complete contact information including email to receive their certification card.

Dr. Klieb is an oral pathologist and staff clinician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center with cross appointments to the departments of dentistry and anatomic pathology at University of Toronto

Overview:

Dental examination begins with inspection of the facial skin and oral soft tissues. It is not uncommon for lesions to be identified and the dentist should be able to assess document and either manage or refer appropriately.

Dr. Baig received his dental degree from H.K.E.S Dental College, Gulbarga University, India in 1997. He has completed his residency at Government Dental College and Hospital in Hyderabad India. Dr. Baig completed Advance Education in General Dentistry program and Graduate program in Prosthodontics at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, University of Rochester New York state USA. Dr. Baig is a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Rochester in the Department of Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, University of Rochester, USA. He also works as a Clinical Instructor in Prosthodontics in Mt Sinai Hospital, and Associate in Dentistry at University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, Toronto, Canada, and private practice at Dental Specialists Group, Woodbridge, Prosthodontic Associates, and Toronto in Ontario.Dr. Baig is a board certified Prosthodontist in Canada and serves as a national examiner for national specialty examination of Prosthodontics administered by Royal College of Dentist of Canada. Dr. Baig has a special interest in aesthetics and implant dentistry, Reconstructive Prosthodontics, Dental Ceramics and smile makeover procedures. Dr. Baig lectures to dental study clubs and professional organizations across North America and Southeast Asia.

Dr. Taheri did his undergraduate dentistry program at Tufts and received his prosthodontic training at Tufts University in Boston in 2011. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada since 2016. He is a fellow of Greater New York Academy of prosthodontics and a fellow of the American College of Dentists.

He has lectured nationally on topics including treatment planning, occlusion, esthetic and implant dentistry. He has invited to participate in dental podcasts as well as contributing to Education of general dentists.

Course Description: Implant dentistry is a very successful treatment modality in a wide variety of applications. Nonetheless, difficulties and complications are occasionally encountered at all phases of implant therapy – treatment planning, surgery, restoration and maintenance. This course will review implant complications for esthetic problems, angled implants, soft tissue problems, loose prostheses, fractures or deformed parts, unusual complications. This lecture will focus on timely diagnosis, preventive strategies how to manage complications, and to involve specialists to salvage the compromised implant.

Dr Manor Haas

Dr Manor Haas is a certified specialist in endodontics and is extensively and passionately involved in continuing education to general dentists and specialist. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is on staff at the University Of Toronto Facility Of Dentistry and the Hospital for Sick Children. He maintains a full time private practice limited to endodontics and microsurgery in Toronto. Dr Haas is a regular contributor to dental magazines and blogs. He has no financial or proprietary in any dental product of company.

Course Objectives:

• Learn how to instrument, medicate, obdurate and restore teeth with immature apices, calcified and curved canals (including MB2) and prevention and management of endo complications.

• Learn about pre and post treatment medication protocols (antibiotics, anaelgesics) and drug interactions in young and old patients.

• Understand treatment protocols for dental trauma, facial swellings, and when to endo vs. exo/implant.

Dr. Monika Winnicki

Dr. Monika Winnicki is a dermatologist in the Toronto Area in private practice as well as a Skin cancer specialist at Skin Cancer Clinic at the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital.

The dentist serves as an important health care provider who has frequent contacts with patients in the community. In fact, many dental professionals may have more visits with their dental professionals than with their physician. Incorporation of skin examination of the head and neck region, and face especially, by the dentists during routine visits would allow for early recognition and treatment of potentially dangerous skin conditions.

In this course, the practitioner will learn a comprehensive approach to skin examination of the head and neck area as well as an overview of both common and potentially serious skin lesions and rashes.

Learning Objectives:

• Develop an approach to cutaneous examination of the head and neck area, with a focus on the face and perioral area

• Become familiar with the clinical appearance of common benign lesions

• Become familiar with clinical features of skin malignancy, particularly malignant melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma Basal cell carcinoma and Merkel cell carcinoma.

Dr. Aviv Ouanounou

Dr. Ouanounou is an assistant professor of Pharmacology at the Facility of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He received both his DDS and MSc at the University of Toronto. He teaches pharmacology to undergraduate and graduate students and is also a Clinical Instructor and Treatment Plan Co-coordinator. Dr. Ouanounou has won numerous teaching awards, including the Best Teacher of the Year Award in 2013 and 2015 and he is the recipient of the 2014-15 prestigious Dr Bruce Hord Master Teacher Award for excellence in teaching. Dr. Ouanounou is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.

Course Objective:

• Understand basic concepts of pharmacology and understand the mechanism of local anesthetics and the potential complications associated with their administration.

• Be informed of the analgesics currently used in dentistry and understand the various adverse effects and drug interactions relevant to dentistry.

Dr Friedlich has been a registered dentist in the province of Ontario since 1986 having graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto. He then completed his Residency in Oral and Maxillofacial at long island Jewish medical center in New York. Dr. Friedlich is a past president of the Ontario and Canadian association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and as a senior examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is a clinical instructor at the University Of Toronto in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is in a private practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Brampton and he is one of the staff on the Department of Surgery at the William Osler Health Centre.

Dr. Zain Manji received his bachelor’s and dental degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After completion of dental school he continued his studies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, where he also obtained his medical degree. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Manji is registered as a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He maintains a private practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon in Toronto and Brampton.

Course Objective:

Patient selection is perhaps the most important part of providing safe surgical procedures for your patients, but it does not stop there. This presentation will revisit the basics in patient selection and pitfalls of poor decisions making before, during and after oral surgery procedures.

Participants will be exposed to a systematic approach to evaluating a patient being considered for surgical intervention to include: a proper working diagnosis, relevant medical history/comorbidities ,medication related considerations ,surgical options ,relevant contra-indications and the informed consent process.

Complications associated with surgical care will also be reviewed at length including bleeding, infections, dry sockets, nerve injuries, abnormal healing, antral communications, displaced teeth, Retained foreign bodies…

Dr. Michael Gardner

Dr. Larisa Naderiani obtained her Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, with high distinction, completing a concurrent double major in Biology and Psychology. In 2006, she continued on to pursue a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Toronto, and later a Master of Public Health degree at Tufts University in Boston. Dr. Naderiani joined the College as full-time staff in 2014, and currently acts as a Senior Dental Consultant.

Larisa maintains a private clinical practice and teaches undergraduate dental students as well as continuing dental education courses. She is the provincial dental regulator’s point of contact for IPAC (infection prevention and control) lapses for all Public Health Units in Ontario, and leads the College’s IPAC educational outreach efforts.
