Safety Instructions: Installation For a safe installation of the T55 in a hazardous area the following must be observed. • The module must only be installed by qualified per-sonnel who are familiar with the national and interna-tional laws, directives and standards that apply to this area.• Year of manufacture can be taken from the first two digits in the serial number.• The sensor circuit is not infallibly galvanically isolated from the input circuit. However, the galvanic isolation between the circuits is capable of withstanding a test voltage of 500 Vac during 1 minute.• The transmitter must be mounted in an enclosure in order to provide a degree of ingress protection of at least IP20.• For use in explosive atmosphere Install per CSA and FM installation drawings.• Cable entries and blanking elements shall be used that are suitable for the application and correctly in-stalled.• For an ambient temperature ≥ 60°C, heat resistant cables shall be used with a rating of at least 20 K above the ambient temperature.• The surface temperature of the enclosure is equal to the ambient temperature plus 20K, for a dust layer with a thickness up to 5 mm.

Safety Instructions: Special Conditions Special conditions for use:• For use in potentially explosive atmospheres of flam-mable gasses, vaporous and mists, the transmitter shall be mounted in an enclosure providing a degree of ingress protection of at least IP 54 in accordance with EN 60529.

• For use in the presence of combustible dusts, the transmitter shall be mounted in an enclosure provid-ing a degree of ingress protection of at least IP 6X in accordance with EN 60529. The surface temperature of the enclosure shall be determined after installation of the units.• Provisions shall be made to prevent the rated supply voltage being exceeded by transient disturbances of more than 40%.• If the enclosure in which the transmitter is mounted is made of Aluminum and installed in Zone 0, 1 or Zone20, 21 or 22 it shall not contain by weight more than 6% in total of magnesium and titanium. • The additional enclosure of the apparatus shall be designed and/or installed in such a way that, even in the event of rare incidents, ignition sources due to im-pact and friction sparks are excluded.

Mounting• For sensor head mounting. In non-hazardous areas the T55 can be mounted on a DIN rail.

Application• Linearized temperature measurement with Pt100...Pt1000, Ni100...Ni1000, or TC sensor.• Difference or average temperature measurement of 2 resistance or TC sensors.• Conversion of linear resistance variation to a stan- dard analogue current signal, for instance from valves or Ohmic level sensors.• Amplification of a bipolar mV signal to a standard 4...20 mA current signal. • Connection of up to 15 transmitters to a digital 2-wire signal with HART® communication.

Technical characteristics• Within a few seconds the user can program T55 to measure temperatures within all ranges defined by the norms.• The RTD and resistance inputs have cable compen-sation for 2-, 3- and 4-wire connection.• Continuous check of vital stored data for safety rea-sons.• Sensor error detection according to the guidelines in NAMUR NE 89.

Programming: General

The T55 Transmitter can be cofigured in the following ways:

• With the Burns Engineering TP05 Programming Module and PC configuration software. • With a HART® modem and PC configuration software.

• With a HART® communicator with a Burns Engineering DDL driver.

Programming: HART® communicator

For programming please refer to the note below and the HART® Communicator Figures 6 & 7 on Sheet #11. To gain access to product-specific commands, the HART® communicator must be loaded with the Burns Engineering DDL driver. This can be ordered either at the HART® Communication Foundation or at Burns Engineering.• The HART® communicator or a PC modem can be connected across AB or BC.• The outputs of max. 15 transmitters can be connected in parallel for a digital HART® communication on 2-wires. • Before it is connected, each transmitter must be configured with a unique number from 1 to 15. If 2 transmitters are configured with the same number, both will be excluded. • The transmitters must be programmed for multidrop mode (with a fixed output signal of 4 mA). Maximum current in the loop is therefore 60 mA. • The communication is either by means of a HART® communicator or a HART® modem. • The TP05 Programming Module can configure the individual transmitter for multidrop mode and provide it with a unique polling address.
