    Dear Readers,

At the outset wish you all a very HAPPY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR – 2019!!! We are glad to publish the second issue of the newsletter – ‘MargJal’ of Marathwada Sub Centre of ICT Mumbai (MARJ). We started the academic calendar from August 28, 2018 and last 4 months were academically hectic and in fact overloaded, although there was a short Diwali vacation of 1 week. At MARJ, the students, faculty and sta are feeling good to see that the rst trimester is complete and the entire academic calendar including end trimester examination has been followed very meticulously. anks to all and to Prof P R Vavia (Dean, Academic Programme) and Prof V K Rathod (Controller of Examinations). Two important points need a special mention – Shri Sharad Lahoti, Associate Dean, Industry has done a wonderful job of designing a diary to monitor and evaluate industrial training (IPT) of the 30 students who have joined various industries from Jan 2019. e ICT-IOCL, Bhubaneswar campus has also adopted the same diary. A big thank you and appreciation of the tireless eorts put in by Shri Lahoti in last 2 months. e second point is related to conducting teaching as well as examination of the course Engineering Drawing. All 60 MARJ students rushed to Matsyodari College of Engineering, a neighbouring institute, every Saturday for getting hands on training on engineering drawing – a very important foundation course – no matter what engineering specialization they had enrolled for. It also included exposure to ACAD software for making correct drawing quickly. Prof Biradar (Principal) and Prof Shelke and their team went out of the way to help our students with this course. ere was a pleasant surprise for us when Matsyodari College arranged a felicitation programme on December 22, 2018 and gave pat on the back of ICT students by awarding two toppers in the subject!!! It is just 4 months association, but the two institutes, ICT MARJ and Matsyodari Engineering College, have jelled so well as if they are family. We look forward to many more collaborative activities in the future. Last but not the least, personally December 2018 was very special for me, since two national awards – AFST fellowship and VASVIK Award were bestowed upon me. My gratitude towards my alma mater ICT and my research students without whom I could not have achieved anything! Team MARJ is excited to welcome the new year with several activities planned for all.

I am personally delighted that with the help of industries in Marathwada region, CMIA, UAA, well wishers and sincere eorts of Associate Dean Prof Sharad Lahoti, under the guidance of Professor Smita S Lele, and Dr Parag Nemade, ‘Batch A’ from the class of Integrated M Tech Programme at MARJ has been accepted for the 4-month internship of T2. Similarly, it has also happened at IOCB. Kudos to Associate Dean Prof S K Sarangi and Director Prof B N orat and Dr Anant Kapdi. e basic objective of this 15-trimester programme is on the right path. We ought to have several industries with us and a detailed procedure for evaluation and grading will soon be ready. When I visited the MARJ campus on 2nd December 2018, I had the pleasure of giving a lecture on ‘Chemical Engineering Concepts Forever’ dealing with the importance of rate processes in physical, chemical and biological systems and industries. Chemical Engineering is highly a science based discipline with strong foundations in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Biology. Chemical Engineering deals with all rate processes from atom to atmosphere. e improvement in mass, energy, volume and time e§ciency was brought out. Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE)- Maharashtra-Goa Section conferred the Best Engineering Institute award upon ICT on 5th January in Mumbai. I had the pleasure of signing an MOU with Gexcon, in the presence of Hon’ble Mrs Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway for the establishment of Centre of Excellence in Process Safety Science and Engineering on 7th January 2019 in New Delhi. We also had the pleasure of hosting four distinguished scientists in ICT on 11th January, 2019: Nobel Laureate Sir Dr Richard Roberts (Chief Scientic O§cer, Biolabs, New England, USA), Professor

A visit to ICT Jalna A Parent’s View

A vision to disseminate knowledge with an out of the box curriculum. Build ambassadors who will be °amingoes of change to mankind. e ICT Jalna, Marathwada Campus is the ambitious vision of Vice Chancellor, Professor G D Yadav.

If the barometer of any institute is the level of gung-ho mood in the participants, then the Institute of Chemical Technology, Jalna, Marathwada campus notches up a very high score!

Whether it was the vivacious, determined director Ms Smita Lele, the tutors, the students, sta, the mood was infectiously positive and optimistic. e single most important reason for this was the buzz on everyone’s lips- the start of a new course ‘Integrated M Tech in Chemical Technology’, the very rst of its kind in the country!

It was not one of these anxiety visits of mine to the college. I was there with joy and pride that the premier institute had spread its wings and I am a stakeholder.

I was greeted by professor Joshi, assistant professor in engineering physics and materials, with a warm smile and a couple of minutes with him around the campus gave insight to the quality of training, frank and serious talks with students to bring out their best.

Remember, how excited/anxious we were when the counseling sessions were going on? I think we should all take pride in the fact that it has been a landmark year for ICT and let’s all work together for a landmark record for our wards here. We need an infectious ambition and goal to achieve this.

e ve year Integrated M Tech programme, fully funded by the government, is denitely equipped and empowered to make a real change and with Ms Smita Lele who is drinking from a re hose is sure to raise the bar.

e work was going on in the full swing. e environment there was like a countdown for an institute being built to impress the society. Now it is up to you and me and our bright minds. We have the chance to forge a path of ever-increasing in°uence and relevance to choose the direction and tempo of the institute’s new beginning.

I ask all the stakeholders to increase their involvement in the growth of this centre of excellence for education, research, and innovation by doing and inspiring.

Together we can make it a beautiful landmark!

Dussehra CelebrationICT Marathwada campus at Jalna (MARJ) started a good tradition of celebrating Dussehra by having a pooja on Vijaya Dashmi (in spite of being a holiday). On the morning of 18th October, the campus was looking bright and colourful with beautiful °oral decorations. e students stayed back long hours after classes the previous evening to make artistic Rangoli using °owers and petals. e atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm because everyone was excited to see the very rst issue of the newsletter- ‘MargJal: Volume 1, Issue 1’ - highlighting news as well as the genesis of the campus.

Dr S K Biradar, the Principal of Matsyodari Engineering College, was invited as the chief guest on this occasion and the rst issue of MargJal- printed version- was inaugurated!! Being the document with historical potential, 300 hard copies are printed. Every student collected his copy with pride! Copies are also sent to the o§ce of Honourable Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavisji, to the o§ce of Shri Raosaheb Danveji, as well as to all the District Collectors in Marathwada region.
