HistoryMale domestic violence has been around forever in history. However it has only been highlighted recently in history. This could be because it was seen as males were the boss of the house for example sayings like “Man of the house”. Male domestic violence awareness week is on the first week of March. Women’s domestic violence has dramatically changed throughout the years for example before 1870 when a woman married her property automatically became her husband’s. However, in 1870 they passed the Married Women’s Property Act which meant any money or land she earned or inherited while married stayed hers. Furthermore, in 1956 there was a act passed called the Sexual Offences Act which was the first time the rape was defined under specific criteria. In 1961 the contraceptive pill was made available on the NHS regardless of martial status or husband’s permission. One important development in domestic violence was the first safe house in 1971. However this safe house was only for Women or children fleeing domestic abuse not men.

Organisations Men’s advice line is my first organization. They are a company which help men who are suffering from domestic violence. On their website they say they are a confidential helpline for any man experiencing domestic violence or abuse. Man Kind Initiative is a website that helps men escape from domestic abuse. They have a confidential help line which helps men in the UK with domestic abuse.Another organisation for domestic violence is refuge. However this is only for women and children who and fleeing from domestic violence. Refugee has a 24 hour free phone helpline for women and children and works in partnership with Women’s Aid.This brings me onto my next organisation Women’s Aid. Which also have a 24 hour help line. They also have a donation section and fundraising section where you can help donate money to the charity. All the donations go 100% to Women’s Aid.
