    Remove & Install Implement Pumps 1. Remove the cap from the implement hydraulic tank to relieve the pressure from the system.

  • 5. Remove three hydraulic lines (6). Attach a lifting device to implement pump (8). Remove two bolts (7). Move the pump away from the pump drive until the splines of the pump shaft are clear of the pump drive. Use the lifting device to raise the implement pump out of the frame. The weight of the implement pump is 132 kg (290 lb).

    NOTE: To install implement pump, reverse the removal steps.

  • a. remove implement pump

    1. Thoroughly clean the outside of the pump.

    2. Fasten a hoist to the pump. Put the pump in position on tooling (A). Put a piece of bar stock (1) that is 203.2 mm (8 in) in length by 38.1 mm (1.5 in) wide by 12.7 mm (.5 in) thick between tooling (A) and the table.

    3. Remove two bolts (2) from the pump and install two 1/2" - 13 NC guide bolts with a length of 8 in. Remove the remainder of the bolts that hold the cover in place.

    4. Remove cover (3) from the head of the pump. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover.

  • 5. Remove nut (4) and impeller (5) from the shaft.

    12. Remove three bolts (13) that can hold the cam in position.

    13. Remove the barrel assembly, shaft and cam from the pump body as shown. The weight of the assembly is 41 kg (90 lb).

    Do not remove the snap ring behind the bearing. The snap ring holds a large spring in the center of the barrel which is under compression. Sudden release of the spring can cause personal injury.

  • 14. Remove shaft (14) from the cam and barrel.

    15. Remove bearing cone (15) from the shaft with a press as shown.

    16. Make sure tool (C) is positioned against the barrel. Put the cam and barrel in a vertical position on tool (D). Put identification on each of the pistons. Put a mark on barrel (17) respective to each location for use during assembly of pistons and barrel. Remove cam (16) and pistons from barrel (17).

  • 17. Remove eight bolts (19) and washers that hold the bearings and shims to the cam.

    18. Remove bearing (21) and the shims from the cam.

    19. Remove restriction plate (20). Remove pistons (18) from the cam.

    21. Put barrel (17) in position in a press. Put tool (C) on the barrel for protection of the face from scratches. Put tooling (G) between the press head and spring spacer (25).

  • 22. Push down on spring (24) to release the pressure against snap ring (26).

    23. Remove snap ring (26) with tool (F). Slowly release the compression on spring (24).

    24. Remove spacer (25), spring (24) and spacer (23) from the barrel.

    2. Heat bearing cone (1) to a maximum temperature of 135 C (275 F). Put the bearing cone in position on shaft (2).

    4. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (5). Install the bearing cup in pump body (6). Make sure the cups and cone are against their respective shoulders.

    5. Do the following procedure when a replacement of shaft bearings, shaft, head or body is made:

    NOTE: Do not install the barrel assembly or pistons for this procedure. If a replacement of the shaft bearing, shaft, head or body is not necessary, go to Step 6.

    a. Heat bearing cone (7) and install the bearing on shaft (2). Make sure the bearing cone is tight against the shoulder.

  • b. Install the shaft in the body.

    c. Install the head and gasket (8) on the body. Tighten the head bolts.

    d. Put tooling (A) in position to measure end play of shaft.

    e. Pull on the shaft and turn the shaft in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction 40 to put the bearings against their seats.

    f. Turn the indicator to zero while the shaft is turned.

    g. Push on the shaft. Turn the shaft clockwise and counterclockwise directions 40. Be sure that the indicator is at the same place on the shaft as it was in Step f. If shaft end play is 0.05 to 0.33 mm (.002 to .013 in) go to Step 1. If the end play is less than 0.05 mm (.002 in) do Steps h through m.

    h. Remove the head and install, a 0.25 mm (.010 in) shim between the head and the body. Tighten the head bolts.

    i. Pull on the shaft and turn it clockwise and counterclockwise directions 40. Turn the indicator to zero.

    j. Push on the shaft and turn clockwise and counterclockwise directions 40.

    k. Read the indicator while the shaft is turned. Be sure the indicator is at the same point of contact as before. The indicator must show at least 0.28 mm (.011 in) of end play.

    l. Remove the head, shims, gasket and shaft from the pump body.

    m. Remove bearing (7) from the shaft.

    6. Install spacer (9), spring (10) and spacer (11) in barrel (13).

  • 7. Put the barrel in a press. Put tooling (B) on the barrel face. Put tool (C) between the press head and spacer (11). Push down on spring (10) and install snap ring (12). Use tool (D) to install the snap ring.

    8. Install wear plate (14) in cam (16). Make sure dowel (15) in cam (16) is in alignment with hole in wear plate (14).

    9. Put pistons (17) in position on the wear plate in their correct sequence. Install retraction plate (18).

    10. Put the original amount of shims and bearings (19) in position on the cam. Install the bolts.

  • 11. Measure the clearance between the piston slippers and wear plate with a feeler gauge (20). The clearance between all slippers and the wear plate must be 0.08 0.03 mm (.003 .001 in). Add or subtract shims if the clearance is not correct.

    12. Put tool (B) against the barrel face. Put the barrel in position on tool (E). Install the pistons and cam in the barrel respective to the marks put on the barrel and pistons at disassembly.

  • 14. Install a 3/8" - 16 NC guide bolt with a length of approximately 8 in. in the cam. Make sure the dowel in the cam is in alignment with the dowel hole in the pump body. Use two persons and install pump body (21) over the shaft, cam and barrel. The weight is 36 kg (80 lb).

    15. Install O-ring seals (23) on retainer (22). Use tooling (F) and install the inside seal in the retainer with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the pump.

    17. Use tooling (F) and install the outside seal in the retainer with the lip of the seal toward the outside of the pump.

    NOTE: See illustration A63028P3 for more information on correct seal information.

    18. Put lubrication on all the seals and install retainer (22) in the pump body. Install the three bolts that hold the retainer in place.

    19. Tilt the pump on tool (E). Keep tool (E) against the barrel face. Fasten a hoist and put the pump in position on tool (G). Use bolts and nuts to keep the pump in place. Remove tools (E) and (B).

    22. Install the seal in the head. Put a small amount of hydraulic oil on the seal and on the head. Put port plate (23) in position on the head on the dowels.

    23. Install two 3/8" - 16 NC guide bolts (24) that are 8 in. in length. Put head (4) in position on the pump body.

  • 24. Install two original head bolts (27) with flat washers to hold the head tight against the pump body.

    25. Install original shims (25) and key (26) on the shaft.

    26. Install impeller (28) on the shaft. Install nut (29) and tighten to a torque of 150 20 Nm (10 15 lb ft).

    27. Use a gauge bar (30) and feeler gauge (20) to check the clearance at three locations around the impeller, 120 apart.

  • 28. Use shims (25) as necessary to get a clearance of 0.44 0.08 mm (.017 .003 in) between the gauge bar and the impeller.

    29. Install O-ring seal (31) on the cover. Put cover (32) in position on the head. Install the bolts that hold the head in place. Remove the guide bolts (24) and install the remainder of the bolts.

    Typical Example

    30. Turn the pump shaft with a torque wench. The torque needed to start the shaft to turn must not be more than 55 Nm (40 lb ft). The torque needed to keep the shaft in rotation must not be more than 37 Nm (27 lb ft).

    NOTE: If the torque values are higher than the above specifications. The pump must be disassembled and the problem corrected.
