Transcript of Contemporary Music Center
Sit by the pond writing lyricS to match your mood, and then go into the studio to lay it all down. Argue over who had the biggest influence on pop mu-sic – The Beatles or Michael Jackson. Lounge by the fireplace in a 100-year old hunting lodge catching up on the latest Pitchfork post. Download the #1 iTunes single then discuss it in class the next morning. Contemplate chord progressions and harmonies, marketing strategies and lighting technique. You could spend the semester doing the same old thing…or you COULD add hands-on experience to your resume and pick up 16 credits while you’re at it. Imagine an entire semes-ter with people who want to discover ways to influence culture through music. Imagine being 1 of 30 students chosen to participate in an exclusive four-month long residency at the Contemporary Music Center.
$300,000+ worth of the lateSt recording equipment, micro-phones and guitar amps at your fingertips. Set on 21 wooded acres overlooking Seth’s Pond, the Contemporary Music Center’s three recording studios, sound stage and professional offices form the epicenter of a program dedicated to helping students prepare for a career in music.
Martha’s Vineyard, the largest resort island in New England, lies just five miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Long known as the summer home of such celebrities as James Taylor, Spike Lee, Tom Welling, The Kennedys, and President Obama, just to name a few. The Vineyard (as the locals call it) offers a rare combination of world-class amenities and small-town warmth. No wonder Martha’s Vineyard has gained a reputation as one of the best spots in the country for artists to live and work.

. . . living in intentional community and agreeing that music is a solid foundation on which to build a different kind of experience. Here’s your chance to live and collaborate with people who love music as much as you. Make a record, market a record, make a mark. Just another day at the CMC.
Take a hike (literally), write a song or seven, learn to play the accordion, banjo, harmonica, and bass or just about anything else you can get your hands on. Play tennis, go canoeing, visit all the light houses, and have clam chowder while sitting on the beach. Eat some of the best food on the island prepared by CMC chef “Bubbles,” then journal by the fireplace in the Café. Make friends who will become your family.
