Do you live near a city park or visit one daily? If you do, perhaps you would like the opportunity to help keep it in good shape. The City of Port Huron’s “Adopt-a-Park” program is a way to provide a formal means in which volunteers can provide assistance to maintain community park areas. Parks may be adopted by individuals, civic groups, church groups, youth groups, garden clubs, businesses and non-profit organizations. The adoption period is for one year beginning in the spring. After that, volunteers may renew, change locations or terminate the adoption.

Volunteers perform maintenance and beautification activities that are in addition to grass cutting, tree trimming and other routine work performed by the City Parks and Forestry staff. Adoptee responsibilities include picking up and disposing of any small amounts of trash and other debris on an as-needed basis; notifying the Parks Department of any acts of vandalism or problems in the park. All volunteer projects and activities must be first approved by the Parks Department to ensure that the proposed work is consistent with the plans, goals and objectives of the Parks staff and the Port Huron Parks and Recreation 5-year plan. For more information, call 984-9709.

The Parks of Port Huron have something for everyone… swimming, sunbathing, boating,

beaches, pools, picnicking, fishing, walking, jogging, volleyball, scenic

views, lots of water, softball, tennis, playgrounds, Lake Huron, St. Clair River and the Black River.
