FIELD ENGINEERS REPORT

Mine Flagstaff Cinder Sales Date April 19, 1976

District

Subject:

Engineer John H. Jet t, Director

On February 14, I met with Mr. Bob Olivier of Flagstaff Cinder Sales. Previous discussion disclosed that he was doing experimental work on the use of their cinders in the nursery business, cattle feeding lots, soil lighteners, etc.

A Mr. Robert G. Smith of Deerfield Beach, Florida, telephoned the office looking for a source of cinders for experimental work along the same lines of effort. (Florida is one of the larger cattle feeding states).

After discussion of possibilities, Mr. Olivier is going to have his brother contact Mr. Smith.

Mr. Olivier noted that business has picked up considerably in the last 2-3 months. He is now hauling into Albuquerque and Barstow, California. Quite often he brings crushed stone from Barstow back to Flagstaff for resale. He recently sold a shipment to Arkansas. The company sent their own truck to pick up the material.

Other cinder supplies on BLM land, possibility of water freight from California and trucking to Florida were all discussed.

Mr. Olivier questioned me about the stone maps to the Lost Dutchman mine. He claims they were donated to the Mineral Museum and wants them on display there. I told him that to the best of my knowledge, the Flagg Foundation claimed ownership and presently had them in their possession. (This was at our previous meeting).

Mr. Olivier stated he had checked records of the company that donated the maps and they were donated to the Museum and some people would be called on it.

Flagstaff Cinder Sales Inc. Date December 19, 1975

Engineer John H. Jett, Director

Information from Mr. Bob 0tlivier.

Producing six different products, including two colors of some; aggregate industry and ornamental use are largest consumers. Research projects being carried on for high-strength concrete (eliminates slipping action of cement on smooth stones), as a base in feed lots to eliminate mud, and mixed with fertilizer and used as base for tree farm.

Mr. Ollivier asked if the Stone maps were still on display. I explained to him the status of the maps and he was very upset. He stated they were given to the Mineral Museum and no one else. If they had wanted someone to make money with them, his company would have kept the maps.
