The Construction Technology program provides learners the opportunity to acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in preparation for a career in building construction and associated businesses. Principles involving new construction, remodeling, renovation and repair work for residential and non-residential construction are presented. Program graduates find employment opportunities in skilled trades, building construction supply, general contracting, subcontracting, and building construction industry regulation. Often graduates obtain appropriate licenses and become self-employed contractors. This program will give you the knowledge and skills necessary for job success either as a self-employed business person, an employee in home improvement centers, a plumbing and electrical contractor, carpentry trades, or many other phases within the construction industry. Students can become a highly sought-after American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certified Level 1 Concrete Tester after completing the Concrete and Soils (BCOM 105) course and successfully completing the ACI examination. Students can become very marketable by receiving their Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Safety 10 hour and 30 hour certificates upon completing the Safety and Risk Management (BCOM 235) course. Students can become a United States Green Building Council (USGBC) associate by acquiring a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate Certification after completing the Green Construction (BCOM 103) course and passing the USGBC LEED GA examination.
