1. SOUTH ANDAMAN

Following agencies are constructing 873 units in South Andaman as per details given below:

Community Buildings:

Community Hall, Sub center and Primary schools are to be constructed as part of

permanent shelters, fenders lor the communilv buildings have been launched by APWD

and target date ofcompletion is April, 08.

Development Works:

Terrace development & formation of internal roads have been completed in all the sites.

Black Topping completed in 6 out ol 9 sites. For balance sites, work to be completed by

November'07. Work for culverts, retaining/ breast walls and drains are progressing in

a phased manner by engaging multiple agencies simultaneously. Work lor provision ol

Water Supply has been commenced at some of the sites. Work is likely to be completed

by October '07. Tenders for External Electrical works have been finalized and work has

commenced at Bamboo llat site. Work scheduled to be completed by December '07.

Target dateol completion ol developmental works is April 2008.

Sanitary System:

Eco-lriendly Sewerage Disposal System (SDS) with bio-gas as by-product is being

implemented as part ofthe Project atall sites having more than 50 numbers ofunits.Month wise Roll Out Plan for South Andaman is at Annexure 'A'. The first batch of 54

houses will be ready lor allotment by end ol Oct. 2007.

Curtailment of number by NGO's:

NGO's had initially committed 2397 Nos. of houses which was subsequently curtailed to just 709 houses. The surrendered houses where cither reassigned to APWD & CPWD as per the

details given below:

2. LITTLE ANDAMAN

1973 units arc under construction in Little Andaman by the following agencies:

1 CRS-CARITAS 100 units

2 APWD 908 units

3 CPWD 965 units

The work in three non-tribal sites has recommenced with elicit from 9.1.07, after having

been suspended temporarily due to unfortunate law and order incidents at Hut Bay.

Due to this, the completion has been delayed by 3 months. Work for 25 units at Netaji

N.igar site No.2 could be started onlyon 5.6.2007 due to landdispute.

Foundation Work: The status of Foundation work is as follows:

a Excavation 173 3 88%

b Concrete Pedestal 1704 86%

c Grade Beams 1532 78%

The work for foundations is in progress. Target date of completion of foundation

work is November, 2007.

the Agencies. CPWD has completed the erection of 40 units at Onge Tikrv. Sheeting and

walling work is in progress. Fabrication of steel for superstructure work of CPWD and

APWD is also in progress. Target dale ol completion lor all the sites is May 2008.

Target date of completion is June 2008. Under ground cable laying is in progress and

Material mobilization is in progress for Installation ofTransformer and D. P. Structure S:

External Electrical distribution works. Target date ofcompletion isJune 2008.

Roll Out Plan for Car Nicobar is at Annexure 'A'. The lirst batch of 100 houses will be

ready for allotment by end of September2007.

4. CHOWRA

346 units arc under construction in this island by CPWD.

Constraints: Due to extremely rough sea conditions, transportation ol material through

Stevedoring is possible only during two months in a year i.e. February and March. This

year, transportation ol materials could be started only by the end ol March 2007.

Foundation Work: The status of Foundation work is as follows:

awarded. Material mobilization is in progress. Target date ofcompletion is Oct. 08.

5. TERESSA

506 units arc under construction in this island by CPWD.

Constraints:

i. All sites are approachable only via sea route and materials

can be shipped to shoreonly through stevedoring operations.

ii. Transportation of materials from shore to sites is possible only on head loads.

iii. Being Malaria-prone Island, it adversely impacts morale of stall

working on the permanent shelters.

Foundation Work: The status of Foundation work is as follows:-

518 units arc under construction in this island by CPWD.

North Soulh Road.

BRO has provided fair weather access only upto Joginder Nagar.

The work at four accessible siles has commenced.

Case submitted lo Forest Department lor Forest Clearance for two out of

four siles located in forest land.

F1A study for Kopen Heat &Gandhi Nagar lo beconducted by NIOT

Work at I..axmi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Shastri Nagar will commence in

March 2008 when BRO lair weather road will he available

Foundation Work: The status of Foundation work is as follows:

10. LITTLE NICOBAR

I I I units arc planned for construction in this island by CPWD.

Constraints:

• All the 5 sites fall in reserved forest area for which EIA study and Forest clearance is

required.

• Final EIA reports have been received from NIOT and case is submitted lo Forest

Department for 3sites for Forest Clearance. For balance sites case is under process

lor submission to Forest Department.

• Plan forall the I11 units will be finalized on receipt ol EIA/ Forest Clearance.

• Due to difficult access, air dropping of construction material is required
