CNR - Department of Earth and EnvironmentNational Programs/RITMARE
CNR operates several multi-parametric observing systems placed along the Italian coasts. Most of them transmit data in real time to the receiving stations.

Evaluation of geothermal potential of the regions of Southern Italy
Increase the share of energy consumed from geothermal sources, including both the high temperature for the production of electricity, and the use of innovative technologies
VIGOR, a project that stems from an operational agreement between the MSE - DG ENRE and CNR - DTA of the POI in the "Renewable Energy and Energy Saving 2007/2013", which aims to identify and implement measures to expand the potential to be exploited geothermal energy on the territory of Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily.

“Concordia” Italian-French Base in Antarctica
Italian Station Mario ZucchelliZucchelli Station is located in Terra Victoria, Ross Sea. It has a surface of more than 2.000 m2. It is able to lodge up tp 100 persons and it has an airport on marine ice, operational until November, three helipads and a number of laboratories and automatic installations for scientific research and telecommunications.
Scientific priorities
•Climate and paleoclimate•Exploration of peri-antarctic oceans•Biodiversity and adaptation•Human adaptation to extreme environment •Structure and evolution of the oceanic system•Systematic observation of solid Earth•Systematic observation of the atmosphere•Climatology•Antarctica and global geodynamics•Astronomy and Astrophysics•Technological innovation•Monitoring of the global environment
International Projects
•APE (Airborne Polar Experiment)•CRP (Cape Roberts Project)•Concordia•EPICA (European Project for Ice Coring in Antarctica)•BOOMERang (Balloon Observations Of Millimetric Extragalactic Radiation and Geophysics)•ICEFISH (International Collaborative Expedition to collect & study FISH indigenous to sub-Antarctic habitats)
• Atmospheric Studies• Boundary Layer Turbulent fluxes• Aerosols & air-snow interactions• Radiative & energy budget• Ozone & UV radiation• Sun-Earth Interaction• Auroral Observations• Ionospheric Scintillations• Biological studies• Marine biodiversity & adaptation strategies• Microbial communities & Bockfjord warm springs ecology• Marine studies• Monitoring changes in the Kongsfjord• Biophysical coupling - benthos
