FOREST PROTECTION IS A GENERAL TERM DESCRIBING METHODS PURPORTED TO PRESERVE OR IMPROVE A FOREST THREATENED OR AFFECTED BY ABUSE. THE TYPES OF ABUSE THAT FOREST PROTECTION SEEKS TO
PREVENT INCLUDE:AGGRESSIVE OR UNSUSTAINABLE FARMING AND LOGGING
EXPANDING CITY DEVELOPMENT CAUSED BY POPULATION EXPLOSION AND THE RESULTING URBAN SPRAWL
Conservation of forests
Do you know the forest cover in India in 2010 was 23.02% only

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IS THE PRACTICE OF PROTECTING ENDANGERED PLANT AND ANIMAL
SPECIES AND THEIR HABITATS. AMONG THE GOALS OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION ARE TO ENSURE THAT
NATURE WILL BE AROUND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO ENJOY AND TO RECOGNIZE THE
IMPORTANCE OF WILDLIFE AND WILDERNESS LANDS TO HUMANS.
Conservation of wildlife
The Indian wildlife act was implemented in 1972

Indian government is now focusing on biodiversity. There is more intensive search of different conservation measures.Recently several hundred butterflies, moths, beetles and one dragonfly have been added to the endangered list
Conservation of biodiversity
In 1991 for the first time plants were added to the list

THERE ARE 18 BIOSPHERE RESERVES IN INDIA. THERE ARE 106 NATIONAL PARKS IN INDIA. THERE ARE 442 WILDLIFE SANCTUARIES IN INDIA. THERE ARE 19 BIRD SANCTUARIES IN INDIA
Protected areas
India has the second largest number of protected areas in Asia

The project aims at ensuring a viable population of Bengal tigers in their natural habitats and preserving areas of
biological importance as a natural heritage forever represented as close as possible the diversity of
ecosystems across the tiger's distribution in the country. The project's task force visualized these tiger reserves as
breeding nuclei, from which surplus animals would emigrate to adjacent forests.
Project tiger
Project tiger was launched in 1973

THE INDIAN RHINOCEROS ONCE RANGED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE STRETCH OF THE INDO-GANGETIC PLAIN, BUT EXCESSIVE HUNTING REDUCED THE NATURAL HABITAT DRASTICALLY. TODAY, ABOUT 3,000 RHINOS LIVE IN THE WILD, 2,000 OF WHICH ARE FOUND IN INDIA'S ASSAM ALONE
Conservation of one-horned rhinoceros
Do you know that the one-horned rhinoceros is the 5th largest animal on land
![Page 21: Conservation, distribution and types of forests and wildlife](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052618/5549d78ab4c905fd398b45de/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)

ACCORDING TO IUCN, THERE HAS BEEN A POPULATION DECLINE OF 96–98% OVER A THREE-GENERATION PERIOD SINCE 1946, AND THE ONCE WIDESPREAD POPULATION OF AN ESTIMATED 5,000 TO 10,000 INDIVIDUALS HAS BEEN REDUCED TO A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF WIDELY SPACED SUBPOPULATIONS OF FEWER THAN 235 INDIVIDUALS IN 2006.
Conservation of Gharial
The gharial is the longest crocodile on earth

EVEN IF WE WANT TO CONSERVE OUR FORESTS AND WILDLIFE RESOURCES , IT IS RATHER DIFFICULT TO MANAGE, CONTROL AND REGULATE THEM. THE TYPES OF FORESTS ARE :1.RESERVED FORESTS2.PROTECTED FORESTS3.UNCLASSED FORESTS
Types of forests and wildlife
![Page 25: Conservation, distribution and types of forests and wildlife](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052618/5549d78ab4c905fd398b45de/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Reserved forestsLand rights to forests declared to be Reserved forests or Protected forests are typically acquired (if not already owned) and owned by the Government of India. Protected forestsProtected forests are of two kinds - demarcated protected forests and undemarcated protected forests, based on whether the limits of the forest have been specified by a formal notification.
Unclassed forestsforests and wastelands both belonging to government and public
