One of our major achievements was breaking ground on our new Emergency Department expansion. With a completion date scheduled for the end of 2016, we are excited about offering a more spacious and comfortable environment for the delivery of care to our patients and families in the next 12 months. As a first, we officially adopted Havenview Middle School, the first Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) optional middle school in Shelby County Schools. Our Associates look forward to volunteering as speakers and mentors throughout the school year as we extend our reach in serving the community. We also started an outpatient cardiopulmonary therapy program designed to help patients recovering from heart or lung surgery or cardiopulmonary conditions by helping them overcome lifestyle changes through instruction and special exercises. It is also an achievement to have new physicians Dr. Jeshenna Watkins (Obstetrics/Gynecology) and Dr. Anthony Hollins (Orthopedics) as a part of the Methodist South family. roughout the year, we have also been able to recruit and retain some of the most qualified Associates in healthcare to provide you and your family with the best possible experience as you visit our hospital. I hope that you will have a safe and joyous holiday season and pray that many blessings will be bestowed on our Whitehaven family and community supporters in 2016. Sincerely, James L. Dear Neighbors:

As we prepare to welcome 2016, it is a good time to reflect on our many achievements over the past year.

One of our major achievements was breaking ground on our new Emergency Department expansion. With a completion date scheduled

for the end of 2016, we are excited about offering a more spacious and comfortable environment for the delivery of care to our patients and families in the next 12 months.

Throughout the year, we have also been able to recruit and retain some of the most qualified Associates in healthcare to provide you and your family with the best possible experience as you visit our hospital.

I hope that you will have a safe and joyous holiday season and pray that many blessings will be bestowed on our Whitehaven family and community supporters in 2016.

Sincerely,

James L. Robinson III, PsyD.

Don’t Just Make Resolutions This Year — Keep Them

Every year in late December, we’re met with a challenging question: “What should my New Year’s resolution be?” Lose weight, show more gratitude or maybe run a marathon? These noble goals often fall by the wayside by mid-January. This year, think small and smart to keep your resolutions on track.

Make 2016 Your Healthiest Year Yet!Small, manageable changes can boost your health and happiness and inspire those around you to do the same. Here are 10 ideas for improving your health:

Ditch soda. Try switching to club soda — you’ll enjoy the same effervescence without the sugar or calories.

Make a doctor’s appointment. Make room in your schedule for recommended health screenings. They can detect problems in their earliest, most treatable stages.

Brush your teeth for at least two minutes. Use a timer or play a song to get used to brushing for the full amount of time.

Wash your hands. It’s one of the best ways to keep yourself healthy and prevent the spread of germs.

Take a break. Just five minutes for a quick walk or moment of quiet can help relieve stress.

Protect your skin. Use sunscreen daily — it may already be in products you use!

Make your lunch. You’ll save thousands of calories (and possibly hundreds of dollars) over the year by bringing your lunch instead of buying it.

Eat one more serving of fruit. Whether fresh, frozen, dried or canned, chances are you have opportunities to add fruits or vegetables to your meals.

Set the stage for better sleep. Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet and keep work, computers and television out of the bedroom to promote optimal sleep.

Avoid secondhand smoke. And if you smoke, quitting is one of the best steps you can take toward better health. Smoking cessation aids can help.
