1KB4K: 1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTENPreschoolers read more than 26,000 books as part of the 1KB4K program in 2014!

1KB4K is a library ini-tiative that promotes reading 1,000 books to preschoolers before they begin Kindergarten. It’s easy to do, and the child gets a free book, funded by the Friends of Fondu-lac District Library, every time they read and report 100 books. For additional information or to register, visit the librarians in the Children’s Department.

PREVENT “SUMMER SLIDE”Children who don’t read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning by the time they return to school in the fall.

Children who participate in summer reading pro-grams and read a mini-mum of six books over the summer score higher in reading AND math when they return to school.

Additionally, studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifelong learning.
