We then gave the snowman two good sck arms and named him Sergio. But in the end, when the weather changed, and the temperature began to rise, it did not take long for him to fade away. Our faith can be like that. We may feel close to God in one season and may even increase our parcipaon in church and/or service acvies, but when the tempera- ture of life rises and the busyness of life beckons, we may not feel as secure in our walk with God as we did before. The truth is our faith journey is a life-long journey filled with mountain top experienc- es, valleys, rivers and hills. No maer how careful we are to strive to build that perfect snowman, there will always be some really wonderful seasons, and there will be some seasons that may test our resolve, our paence, and yes, even our faith. I have found in these moments when I experience the challenges of life, I recover beer, or am more at peace, when I trust in the promises of God. The passage above reminds me to trust Him above my own thoughts and feelings and that He will work things out. In order to do this, I need to be intenonal to stay in His word and to reflect on all of his promises. Promises that include His everlasng presence, His never failing love, and His perfect plan for my life not to harm me but to prosper me to give me a hope and a future. As we prepare to enter into this season of Lent which begins with our Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 PM on February 14, I would like to challenge you to be intenonal in reflecng on Gods promises in Scripture (you can look up Gods promises on the web or get a book of Gods promises). As you read the Biblical promises, reflect on what they mean for your life now and in the future. We cannot predict the seasons we encounter in this life any more than we can predict how long the snowman will stay around in the winter. But if we are intenonal to discover Gods promises for our lives, we will begin to trust in Him and lean less on our own understanding.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make Your

paths straight. Proverbs 4:5-6

During this last snow event, my family and I ventured out and made a snowman in the back yard. We were very careful to pack the snow as tight as we could, and meticu-lously placed the hat, bow tie, carrot nose, and cranberries for the eyes and mouth, just so. We then gave the snowman two good stick arms and named him Sergio. But in the end, when the weather changed, and the temperature began to rise, it did not take long for him to fade away. Our faith can be like that. We may feel close to God in one season and may even increase our participation in church and/or service activities, but when the tempera-ture of life rises and the busyness of life beckons, we may not feel as secure in our walk with God as we did before. The truth is our faith journey is a life-long journey filled with mountain top experienc-es, valleys, rivers and hills. No matter how careful we are to strive to build that perfect snowman, there will always be some really wonderful seasons, and there will be some seasons that may test our resolve, our patience, and yes, even our faith. I have found in these moments when I experience the challenges of life, I recover better, or am more at peace, when I trust in the promises of God. The passage above reminds me to trust Him above my own thoughts and feelings and that He will work things out. In order to do this, I need to be intentional to stay in His word and to reflect on all of his promises. Promises that include His everlasting presence, His never failing love, and His perfect plan for my life not to harm me but to prosper me to give me a hope and a future. As we prepare to enter into this season of Lent which begins with our Ash Wednesday

service at 6:30 PM on February 14, I would like to challenge you to be intentional in

reflecting on God’s promises in Scripture (you can look up God’s promises on the web

or get a book of God’s promises). As you read the Biblical promises, reflect on what

they mean for your life now and in the future. We cannot predict the seasons we

around in the winter. But if we are intentional to discover God’s promises for our lives,

UMW Reading Program News

February book of the month The Weight of Mercy: a Novice Pastor on the City Streets by Deb Richardson-Moore

Deb had worked as a journalist for 27 years before being called into ministry as a Baptist pastor. She accepted a post at a run-down inner-city Methodist church in Greenville S.C. She would preach on Sunday to long time church members and homeless people searching for a warm place to sleep. The church looked for ways to help the homeless. Some ideas and suggestions were successful and others were a learning experience. Rev. Deb learned who she could trust and who she couldn’t. Sometimes the best person to handle a situation was a drug addict and sometimes Jesus has the face of a prostitute. All were welcomed into this church family as a Child of God.

Thank You

To our loving Horne Family, words cannot express the gratitude we have for your support for our upcoming trip to Ukraine, both financially and through prayer. We feel blessed God has chosen us for this task. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. We will be gone Jan 2- Jan 11. We cannot wait to share the love of our Lord and Savior to the orphans, widows, elderly, refugees and vulnerable teenagers. May God bless you and your families in this new year. In Christ, Love AR and Bonnie Williams THANK YOU SO MUCH to all those that participated in our Angel Tree ministry for the residents of Clayton House. Whether you took an angel from the tree and bought a gift, provided snacks or drinks, sang in the Choir at the party, or prayed for the success of the party…we appreciate you! And a special thanks to the Stellas who baked cookies for the residents and staff! The fifty-one residents were treated to a wonderful party with music and snacks, and loved their gifts! Several residents asked me to pass along their great appreciation from those of you that they don’t even know, but who took time to bless them in such a warm way. Everyone that purchased a gift should know how far these gifts go to make Christmas so special for the residents. On behalf of Clayton House, thanks to everyone for their generosity. They truly love and appreciate our Church and all that we do to support their residents. I hope your hearts are filled with joy in knowing that you ’ve helped make someone else’s Christmas brighter. Marsha Farrell The Horne Memorial UMC Staff wants to thank the congregation for their generous love offering for the staff during Christmas and the delicious goodies brought in for us to enjoy. We appreciate your support and hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Horne Memorial UMC Staff

This is the one day a year when congregations in the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church take up a special collection for the children and families served by MHC.
