News about the BI Endowment Fund

This'past'summer,''Beth'Israel'received'a'bequest'fromthe'estate'of'our'beloved'member,'Marjorie'Yudkin.''According'to'Marjorie’s'husband,'Randy'Tiffany,''“Itbrings'me'great'solace'to'know'that'out'of'this'tragedy,she'is'able'to'strengthen'a'synagogue'which'gave'hersuch'love'and'support,'and'more'broadly'the'values'ofliberal'Judaism'which'she'spent'her'adult'life'workingfor.”''This'was'the'first'bequest'to'the'Beth'Israel'Endow[ment'Fund,'which'was'formed'in'2008'to'help'ensure'thefuture'of'our'synagogue.

Last'winter'and'spring,'we'completed'a'successfulmatching'campaign'in'which'$16,413'was'raised,'sur[passing'our'goal'of'$15,000.''Donations'were'made'by'30donors,'including'the'Hebrew'School'Hay'class.'''We'ap[preciate'the'efforts'of'all'those'who'participated'in'thiscampaign.'

As'I'sit'down'to'write'my'monthly'arti[cle,'the'radio'is'on'and'the'news'is'allabout'the'United'Nations'FrameworkConvention'on'Climate'Change'inLima,'Peru.''The'conference'will'striveto'establish'the'groundwork'for'a'newagreement'on'curbing'carbon'emis[sions.'We'can'be'proud'that'Beth'Israelas'taken'a'large'step'in'that'direction.Our'membership'in'GreenFaith,'how[ever,'asks'us'to'look'at'a'broader'set'of'issues.'
