Paul ThompsonPaul Thompson is the CEO of theDMG radio network. He is alsoChairman of Nova 969, Nova100, Nova 937, DMG RegionalRadio and Festival CityBroadcasters...

In a 37 year career in radio, Paulhas launched, acquired,developed and managed

broadcasting stations and networks throughout Australia. He is uniquelyexperienced in having been responsible for building two distinct nationalradio broadcasting networks from inception...In doing this he has givenmany of our brightest stars their start in radio.

Paul was the founding CEO of the AustereoGroup, which he guided for 15 years. In 1996,DMG Radio Australia was launched with thisoutstanding radio leader as CEO. The companynow has a portfolio of 64 radio station licenses infive Australian states.

Bob RogersBob Rogers started his radiocareer as a disc jockey inBrisbane building a hugefollowing before coming toSydney to present Australia’sfirst ever Top 40 show on 2UE.Over the next 8 years he wasthe top radio DJ in Australia.In 1963 he joined 2SM, andtogether they created the Good

Guys. The station jumped to number 1. In 1964, he was chosen torepresent his network on the legendary tour by the Beatles throughEurope, Asia and Australia where he became known as “The FifthBeatle”.

Following this highlight, back at 2UE, and needing a new challenge, herelinquished the Disc Jockey image and introduced a new format to hismorning radio show. His program soon won the ratings with a mixtureof provocative commentary, gossip and music. Every artist visitingSydney made sure they were on his show.

In 1976 he wrote what is considered to be the Bible of the birth of theAustralian rock industry called “Rock And Roll Australia”.

More recently, John Singleton enlisted him to the ranks of 2CH Easy 1170,which has proven to be an overwhelming rating success... In fact, hisimpressive record of success has seen him in demand for 6 decades...

2002 INDUCTEES

Stanley J WillmottStanley’s career has included timeas a Senior Executive at ChannelSeven, Sydney; General Manager,2UE; Deputy Managing Director,Broadcast Investments Pty Ltd andExecutive Chairman, Sea FMLimited. He established Sea FMGold Coast as the first non-metropolitan commercial FMstation in Australia and asExecutive Chairman, he

established Sea FM Limited as a successful public company. Stanley waselected a FARB Director or Federal Councillor, and held the positions of FARBVice President or FARB Chairman or President repeatedly between 1976and 1995.

Johannes OostJohannes began his radiocareer in Holland andcommenced in Australian radioas a technician for both 4AYand 4TO. He was also AssistantManager at 4TO in 1969, andwas promoted to manager in1971. In 1974, Johannesbecame Regional ManagerNorth QLD for both 4CA and

4TO. In 1982, he became Operations Manager of AWA BroadcastingDivision and from 1988-94, Johannes was Assistant Manager at 2CH.He is an active member of the Historical Radio Society, has been theindustry voice in Canberra on the National Disasters Committee and amember of the FARB Council for 10 years.

Bob Scott

Bob began his radio career at Radio 2GO at Gosford as Sports Director and involved in all facets ofbroadcasting. Later he was promoted to Assistant Station Manager. From 1976-77, Bob was GeneralManager at 4GR Toowoomba, and from 1978-82 was Managing Director of 2GO Gosford. Following themerger of 2GO and 2WS, he became the founding Managing Director of the 2WS station network. Bob wasawarded the Order of Australia in 1988 for services to commercial radio and the community. In the sameyear he was appointed General Manager of 2DayFM Sydney and General Manager of Triple M Sydney.Between 1996-98 Bob was Deputy Chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Authority.

Bruce RogersonBruce’s radio career began at2PK Parkes in 1949. He alsoworked at 2GN, 2BS then 2NZ,daily on the breakfast, lunch,and early evening children’sprogram and Sunday morning.After studying overseas hereturned to Australia in 1955 toRadio 2UE in sales andproduction and later as Sales

Manager, winning several awards. In 1972 Bruce introduced 2CH GoodMusic. He was also responsible for the establishment of the RadioMarketing Bureau in 1978.

Garvin RutherfordGarvin began his radio career inAustralia as an announcer at2PK Parkes and worked in asimilar capacity at 2DU Dubbo,2NX and 2HD Newcastle. By themid 60’s he had became theNews Director of 2SM and alsohosted his own eveningprogram in the early days oftalkback radio. In 1971, he

became General Manager of 2NX and 2NM and later returned toSydney as General Manager of 2SM.

John BrennanJohn began his career at 2WGWagga Wagga in 1949 as anannouncer and sportscommentator. He worked at2GZ Orange before joining 2SMSydney in 1956 as a disc jockeyand assistant football caller tothe legendary Frank Hyde. In1962, he was appointed

Programme Director/Music Director/Executive Producer where heformulated the highly successful “Good Guy Format”. After 26 years with2SM he joined 2UE in the mid-80’s. As Programme Director, Johnintroduced a talk format that made 2UE the premier Talk Station inAustralia during the late 80’s and through the 90’s. In 1989, John wasawarded an OAM and an Advance Australia Award in 1990 for servicesto radio. His Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded in 2001.

Leslie HeilLeslie commenced his radiocareer at 3SR Shepparton in1952 as an announcer andcopywriter. From 1956, heworked at 3BA Ballarat as anannouncer, newsreader andcopywriter and from 1958worked at 3UZ Melbourne as anannouncer and newsreader. In1965 Leslie was appointed

General Manager of 3KZ Broadcasting Co Pty Ltd. In 1979 rejoined 3KZRadio Pty Ltd as General Manager and was appointed ManagingDirector in 1982. In 1990 Leslie oversaw the conversion of 3KZ to KZFM,the first Australian radio station to successfully convert from AM to FM.From 1993-96, he was Executive Director of Riverina Broadcast (Holdings)Pty Ltd.

Bob CornishBob’s radio career commencedat 3SR Shepparton and 3ULWarragul. In 1954 he joined 3UZMelbourne where he heldpositions of Chief Announcer,Sports Editor, Studio Manager,Assistant Manager(Administration), StationManager, and GeneralManager for six years. He was

elected to the Melbourne Radio Hall of Fame 1997 and awarded aLifetime Achievement Award in 2000.

Janet CameronJanet Cameron is the owner ofGrant Broadcasters, a companystarted by her father in the1970s, which now has 15stations. Janet was part of aconsortium that won the firstregional commercial FM licencegranted on the basis of merit onthe Gold Coast.

Ron CamplinRon is the Chairman of BathurstBroadcasters. Ron began hisradio career at 2CH in 1948 andnow with almost 60 years incommercial radio he is anunstoppable force in thecommunity through radio,Legacy and Rotary. Ron isdedicated to nurturing anddeveloping young people in the

industry and Bathurst has become a launching pad for many radiocareers. Ron was a driving force behind the first degree course incommercial radio at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst. Ron wasawarded an Honorary Masters Degree by Charles Sturt University, hasan Order of Australia Medal and holds a FARB Lifetime Achievementaward. Ron is also well known as a skillful lobbyist for radio in Canberra.

Brian WhiteEmerged in the mid 60’s and 70’s, pioneering news/talk radio in theearly afternoons on 2GB. Forerunner to hard Current Affairs/talk/opinionon Commercial Radio in Australia. Later moved to 2SM, again breakingnew ground in the early 80’s, with Steve Leibmann and John Tinglebringing high quality news presentation to music radio. He managed3AW to success in Melbourne before being called on by Kerry Packer todevelop a national news network/programming hub from 2UE. LaterBrian returned to help resurrect 2UE on his TODAY show, which he ranuntil his death in 1990.

Ronald Haig-MuirStarted his radio career as an announcer and copywriter at 6GE Geraldton in1936 and later joined 2WG in Wagga Wagga where he was appointed SalesManager in 1945. In 1947 he set up his own company which was built intoMelbourne’s largest independent special radio sales operation. In 1955,Ronald bought 2QN Deniliquin in partnership with E. V. Roberts, takingcontrol and operating as adjunct to the Melbourne sales activities. In 1969,he became Executive Director of Riverina Broadcasters (2WG) andsubsequently added 2LF Young to the company. He was awarded a WombatAward in 1986.

Des FosterFormerly a newspaper journalist, Des made the transition to commercial radio in 1955 as head of news, sport and special events at Radio 2UESydney. He was appointed General Manager of 2GB Sydney in 1960 where he remained for a decade. In 1986 Des was made a Member of theOrder of Australia for services to media.
