On Friday May 23, 2014 the Na-tional Honor Society of Lakewood High School enjoyed a beautiful day in Baltimore, Maryland. For our final trip of the year, we ex-plored the Baltimore National Aquarium on the Inner Harbor and enjoyed shopping and lunch at restaurants such as the Cheese-cake Factory and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Some students also vis-ited ‘Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum’ and enjoyed paddle boat rides on the Harbor. It was a won-derful day with great weather and the students had lots of fun ex-ploring Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Special thanks to our Advisors, Mr. Filardo and Mrs. Ruddy for making it all possible. The National Honor Society members have also had the privi-lege of tapping and inducting the top fifteen students of the Junior class into the National Honor So-ciety for the 2014-2015 school year. Fifteen of our members vol-unteered to “tap” a certain mem-ber of the top fifteen of the Junior class and they did so by finding the student in the hallways or in class and giving them balloons and candy, with a congratulatory hug to top it off. These Juniors were also invited to go on the Bal-timore trip to bond with the cur-rent members of the National Honor Society and the other new members. Our Spring Tapping Breakfast was on Tuesday May 27, 2014 and that is where the NHS seniors officially inducted the fif-teen new NHS Juniors. We wish them the best of luck for their Senior year, and we hope that they have as good a year as we’ve had, being a part of the LHS National Honor Society.

Interact Club joins American Cancer Society Relay for Life The Lakewood High School Interact Club is joining the American Can-cer Society to help finish the fight by participating in a community Re-lay For Life event at the Freehold Raceway on June 14-15. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraising move-ment is the largest in the world. There are 5,200 communities in the US who host an event - and 19 other countries host Relay events, too! No matter where you live, you can help finish the fight against cancer. A Relay For Life event is much more than just walking around a track. At the event, we celebrate loved ones who have won their battle against cancer, remember those no longer with us, and fight back against this disease that robs so many of so much. The good news? Because of the funds raised by Relay participants like

me, more people in our community: •Have the information and tools they need to avoid getting cancer or

find the disease early, when it's easiest to treat •Have a place to turn for help 24/7 •Benefit from the progress being made toward finding cancer's causes and cures •Get access to lifesaving screen-ings and treatment Please join our team or contribute to our fundraising efforts. Visit http://www.relayforlife.org/ and under “Find a Team” search for the Piner Unforgettables. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to a world with less cancer and more birthdays - a

world where not another life is lost to the disease.
