Job Title: Kakumba Watershed Pilot Project Manager Reports to: Executive Director of EMI Supervises: All staff hired under EMI contract with PWP for Kakumba Watershed Pilot Project Department & Location: EMI, Gomba, Uvira, DRC Job Status: Full Time Contract INTRODUCTION The Kakumba Pilot Project will be targeting the Kakumba watershed in Uvira territory of Democratic Republic of Congo to promote establishment of savings groups, encourage sustainable farming and land management practices, and provide training in Theology of Work curriculum. PWP will be contracting EMI to operate a 24 month pilot project to implement these objectives. Ebenezer Ministries International (EMI), www.ebenezerministrydrc.org is a nonprofit organization that contributes to the reestablishment of a climate of peace to have access to basic services for communities of the mid and high plateau of Fizi, Mwenga, and Uvira without any form of discrimination . It is registered with the Ministry of Justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Plant With Purpose (PWP), www.plantwithpurpose.org, based in San Diego, CA, USA, reverses poverty and deforestation by transforming the lives of the rural poor. PWP works with small scale subsistence farmers to help them address their environmental, economic, and spiritual challenges. JOB SUMMARY Pilot Project Manager (PPM), will be responsible to oversee all aspects of the 24 month contract between EMI and PWP. Primary focus of contract will be to improve the lives of small scale subsistence farm households in the Kakumba watershed in Uvira territory, DRC in ways that also lead toward positive and lasting environmental outcomes. PPM will manage contract finances, project implementation, human resources, reporting, and evaluation and be responsible assuring the quality and outcomes specified by the contract. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management Assure all outcomes of 24 month Pilot Project Contract between EMI and PWP are successfully met; outcomes will focus on improving the economic, environmental, and spiritual lives of subsistence farm households in the Kakumba watersheds of Uvira, DRC Supervise all staff hired under Pilot Project Contract Coordinate training events and manage logistics of all project activities

Project  Administration

● Assure  proper  financial  management  of  Pilot  Project  Contract  funds  and  provide  regular  financial  reports  to  EMI  and  PWP  

● Oversee  operations  including  setting  up  offices,  mobilizing  necessary  assets,  ensuring  high  operational  standard  compliance  

● Ensure  security  of  all  staff,  equipment  and  premises  ● Act  as  liaison  between  EMI  and  PWP  on  technical  and  project  management  issues  

related  to  Pilot  Project  Contract   Manage  Partnerships  and  Communication  

● Communicate  regularly  with  EMI  and  PWP  about  the  state  of  the  project  ● Assure  regular  quarterly  and  annual  reporting  to  EMI  and  PWP  for  contract-­‐related  

activities    ● Locally  (Kakumba  &  Uvira)  represent  the  project  and  PWP/EMI  partnership  to  

community  and  other  partners  to  the  highest  ethical  and  professional  standards  ● Host  visitors  and  partner  representatives  as  needed    

QUALITIES  NEEDED  FOR  SUCCESS

● A  vision  for  integrated  community  development  which  links  the  economic,  environmental  and  spiritual  aspects  of  rural  households  

● Ability  to  think  creatively  and  pursue  new  solutions  to  existing  challenges  ● Knowledge  of  local  context  in  Uvira,  Democratic  Republic  Congo  ● Ability  to  optimize  financial,  time,  and  human  resources  to  achieve  desired  project  

outcomes  ● Ability  to  relate  across  cultures  ● Strong  Christian  faith.    We  expect  you  to  model  a  high  standard  of  Christian  leadership,  

ministry  and  integrity  through  lifestyle  and  work  relationships  with  the  ability  to  provide  spiritual  guidance  to  staff    

● Must  be  a  citizen  of  Democratic  Republic  of  Congo   REQUIRED  SKILLS

● Excellent  leadership  and  management  skills  ● Fluent  in  French,  Swahili  and  English  ● Good  planning  skills  ● Good  writing  and  reporting  skills  ● Understanding  of  sustainable  farming  practices,  agroecological  principles,  and  

watershed  management  ● At  least  10  years  experience  in  community  development  ● At  least  5  years  experience  in  project  management  ● Bachelors  degree  required  with  a  strong  preference  for  a  Masters  degree  in  agriculture,  

rural  development,  economics,  community  development  or  a  related  field  (or  equivalent  combination  of  education  and  experience)

MANAGEMENT  OF  POSITION

● PPM  will  report  directly  to  the  Executive  Director  EMI  ● For  technical  and  planning  aspects  of  contract  management,  PPM  will  liaise  with  PWP  

staff  ● Regular  reports  will  be  submitted  to  both  EMI  and  PWP  management  

TRAVEL  REQUIREMENTS  &  PHYSICAL  DEMANDS Frequent  travel  to  project  sites  which  at  times  may  be  in  difficult  and  physically  arduous  conditions.    PPM  will  expected  to  be  on-­‐site  for  majority  of  24  month  contract.
