Monroe SUPERVISOR Teri Embrey EQUIPMENT NEEDED Camera, computer, access to PhotoShop software POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY STATEMENT: This intern will assist in photographing the books in the Library’s Main stacks and Rare Book locations and link those photographs appropriately on the website; will edit, update, and create Wikipedia articles related to holdings in these collections and to Vietnam in general; and will create social media posts based on these collections to be used by the Museum & Library. INTENED PURPOSE OF THE PRJOECT: To proactively curate Vietnam War related holdings held by the Museum & Library in support of the anniversary of the Vietnam War and PMML’s exhibits ESSENTIAL POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Excellent communications skills Computer orientation skills Attention to detail Ability to work in teams and independently Research skills Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Interest in learning or past experience using PhotoShop Excellent written and oral communication skills some Master’s degree level course work in either Library Science or Public History ASSIGNED RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES This intern will assist in photographing and scanning rare books and other items from the Main stacks and rare book locations. They will upload those images to the website and the Library catalog. Then, they will identify items that need to be sent to the conservation lab for repair. Additionally, this intern will take key subjects on the Vietnam War and update the references section of Wikipedia articles with ISBNs of books from the Library’s collection or other appropriate links on those topics so that when potential patrons click on those links they are referred to the Library as a resource on that topic. They will also edit or create other general Vietnam War related articles as needed.
