BIO-X CONFERENCE NOTE FROM THE CHAIR

Israel | March 1-5, 2019

A note from the conference chair: We are delighted to host our Bio-X conference series in Singapore, where a special emphasis will be in diagnostic entrepreneurship. It is particularly fitting to do so at the beginning of the year of the dog, our most reliable, effective and kindest known sensor, helping us prevent illegal drug smuggling, detect explosives, pinpoint forensic teams to the location of human remains, discover wildlife scat, locate tasty truffles and we are told, odorous biomarkers for cancer! We are still far, in some areas, from being able to produce diagnostics that would challenge the skills of our canine friends. Be it as it may, we have progressed tremendously, with a lot challenges remaining ahead of us, however, many of us are eager to take them up, and produce diagnostic and monitoring devices for purposes useful to all walks of life. A number of diagnostic changes are predicted to come in the near future in bringing diagnostics to the point-of-care, or in the discovery of a plethora of biomarkers to such challenging diseases as stroke, cancer or psychiatric ones, or even bringing the cloud to the diagnostic world where linking all the disparate kits via the internet of things, would bring monitoring world health into our backdoor. Building artificial intelligence tools to help physicians in their tasks or robots manning the patient sitting rooms are ideas no longer so far-fetched. The race is open not only for multinationals but also creative-intensive start-ups, of which many result from University spin-offs. So, with our modest event, we hope to bring together an interested crowd to foster both new ideas and future collaborations.

Professor Robert S. Marks

BIO-X CONFERENCE MESSAGE

Israel | March 1-5, 2019

A message from Dr. Sidney Yee, CEO Diagnostic Development Hub December 26, 2017 Paradigm shifts in the Asian healthcare ecosystem in recent years have led to major transformation in the Asian healthcare system, with the IVD industry witnessing a stellar growth and aggressive update of innovative technologies. Not only was Asia recognized as a market for future growth, significant R&D efforts have been invested by multinational companies (MNCs) to cater to the Asian population. Being amongst the top 10 startup ecosystems globally, Singapore has attracted MNCs and entrepreneurs to drive the technology innovations community. Singapore’s Diagnostics Development (DxD) Hub is a unique diagnostics innovation cluster developer and is poised to lead the entrepreneurial approach to delivering diagnostic solutions globally. The annual international Bio-X conference, traditionally held in Israel, will make its debut in Singapore in 2018. With a theme on Diagnostics, Monitoring and Entrepreneurship, Bio-X 2018 features speakers from over 6 countries, with ample opportunities for academics, industry expertise, investors, government officials and entrepreneurs to network and foster collaboration. HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR

BIO-X CONFERENCE HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR

Israel | March 1-5, 2019

Bio-X is a unique blend of good science with essential networking under convivial settings. Bio-X has now been haunted by ‘usual suspects’ faithfully gathering to share their science and networking in all our Bio-X events. Bio-X events have promoted the exchange of students between international laboratories, increased interest in startup pursuits, set the stage for shared book (and chapters), academic editorials, stimulated more scientific (and now industrial) visits, helped demonstrate to academics ‘live’ stories why patents are important, and helped spark more studies with peer-reviewed publications. All this while making and sustaining friendship in science!
