CONFERENCE PROGRAM / OMC 2017 3
I am particularly pleased to welcome delegates, exhibitors and visitors attending the 13th Offshore Mediterranean Conference and Exhibition here in Ravenna.
The past two years have been very rough for the economy due to turbulence in the market, with low oil prices affecting operators, service companies and contractors in the supply chain. Even if our industry recovery seems likely to begin, things will not be the same as before. Companies should adapt to this new reality by reshaping their organization, reducing costs and introducing more efficiency, being more careful with capital expenditures to reflect diminished expectations for oil prices.
In this scenario the theme of the Conference, “Transition to a Sustainable Energy Mix: the contribution of the oil & gas industry” will be declined from a number of angles throughout the entire conference programme starting with the Opening Plenary Session, in the panel discussions and in the technical sessions, providing a 360 degree view. Resilience, gas hub and low carbon economy are some of the keywords of OMC agenda.
Special attention is always dedicated to students. This 13th edition includes the event “Students of Today, Professionals of Tomorrow” where they can meet companies, attend a lecture on motivation and participate to SPE paper contest open to MSc and PhD students.
Finally, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy Ravenna’s beauty during your stay. With the support of the local authorities, Ravenna Festival and the many sponsors we have managed to set up a rich social programme at OMC venue as will as around the city centre.

CONFERENCE PROGRAM / OMC 2017 5
Welcome to all delegates to OMC 2017! As Programme Committee of the Conference we have strived to deliver high quality and up-to date contents. We are convinced the programme is offering a broad and comprehensive overview on the most recent industry trends in terms of technology, innovation and field lessons learnt. We highly recommend not to miss the poster sessions, where there is the unique opportunity to actively interact and discuss with the presenters. The panel discussions will offer an additional opportunity to listen to leading industry experts and thought leaders on hot topics such as staying competitive at low oil prices, the low carbon economy and the perspectives of the Mediterranean as a Gas Hub.Finally, the traditional Youth Programme will facilitate meeting with the new generation of our industry leaders. We, the Programme Committee, believe these three days at OMC are an exclusive opportunity for all delegates to meet, discuss and - above all – plan for the future.

Harris Geospatial Italia presentation: Data from satellite provide useful information for the oil&gas community
Harris Geospatial Italia, known as Exelis Visual Informa-tion Solutions Italia, together with its partner sarmap ch presents how to derive information from imaging sensors on board of earth observation satellites which acquires data over the Earth. The increased amount of satellites and sensors as well as the availability of free actual and historical data allow to monitor the environment around us and its changes over time. Remote Sensing applica-tions for the Oil&Gas segment/sector will be presented to show how processing software tools and ad-hoc/cu-stomized tools are able to derive critical information from the available satellite imagery.Examples of the use of optical and SAR data such as in-frastructure detection and its movement monitoring, oil slick detections, sea surface pollution (illegal ship dum-ping), vessel identification, and so on will be presented among others.

Digital Transformation for Operational Excellence in Oil&Gas
Productivity in manufacturing has increased significantly over the past 30 years while it stagnated during the same period in Oil&Gas Operations . Dassault Systemes brings the innovation developed in its labs and experience from other industries into Oil&Gas organizations through the “3DEXPERIENCE”: plan, simulate and review of projects and optimization of construction schedules through 4D Simulation. Live demo will be presented to show how projects with 3DEXPERIENCE achieved improvement of productivity by 50% and reduction of material wastes/reworks by 50%. Safety is significantly improved by best

The future of the platforms and blue economy: decommissioning, multipurpose or other uses?
The speed of the energy transaction towards a low-car-bon economy represents a powerful challenge to design a future for offshore platforms and to follow paths of in-novation towards a sustainable energy mix, capitalizing on the high technological skills acquired on oil and gas industry over the years. The conference aims to promote a dialogue among parties who wish to identify the best solutions to contribute cooperatively to a convergence of Green Economy and Blue Economy. In addition, in the second part, the event will offer an exceptional oppor-tunity for knowledge and debate on the current techno-logical developments for decommissioning of offshore platforms and on the opportunities for diversification, all within the framework of sustainable development of acti-vities related to the marine environment.

Offshore Safety: instruments for Directive 2013/30 / EU implementation The Conference aims to show the instruments implemen-ted in connection with Legislative Decree n. 145, 18th August 2015 transposing the Directive 2013/30/ EU on “safety of offshore oil and gas operations” . With these instruments, European Commission has set the minimum conditions to guarantee the safety for offshore prospection, exploration and production of hydrocarbons. Among the main innovations, there is the institution of a Committee for Offshore Safety, headed as president Prof. Mesini, recently appointed. The Committee performs activities related to the regulation, supervision and control in order of offsho-re upstream sector to prevent major accidents and to limit their consequences. The Structure is based at the Ministry of Economic Development and is held by a central body and local articulations on the territory and makes use of the structures and human resources already foreseen. The me-eting is the occasion to present important news and to in-troduce also tools by the Politecnico di Torino, by the RINA SERVICES, by the DNV GL and by Joint Research Centre in support to the implementation of the Directive.

In terms of energy, sustainable development requires the use of advanced technologies, in order to avoid environmental pollution problems. With this event, the DIRECTORATE GENERAL FOR SAFETY OF MINING AND ENERGY ACTIVITIES- National Mining Office for Hydrocarbons and Georesources intends to take stock of the situation in Italy and in other European countries, in relation to a prime source of energy, such as geother-mal heat. In Italy at the moment there are a number of plants for the production of electricity from geothermal heat, of the traditional type. At the same time some small experimental plant projects are being approved at the Ministry of Economic Development. With these systems we will test a new type of production process, without polluting emissions. These projects require cutting-edge technologies for the plants, and new well completion techniques, in order to optimize the underground mul-tiphase reinjection, which is the most challenging aspect of the program.

RAVENNA FESTIVAL TURNS THE CITY INTO A FANTASTIC STAGEFounded in 1990 by Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, Ravenna Festival has always been characterised by a programme including all performing arts: symphonic and chamber music, opera, drama, dance, ballet, jazz, and ethnic music. Every year from May to July, the city becomes a stage for two months: its gilded basilicas encrusted with mosaics, its elegant theatres, its cloisters, ancient buildings…These extraordinary places – it is worth remembering here that 8 monuments in Ravenna are UNESCO sites – and a multidisciplinary vocation are the features that make Ravenna Festival unique. The Artistic Direction yearly defi nes a programme centred on a culturally relevant theme, while in 2012 the Festival was extended with the invention of the “Autumn Trilogy”, whose formula alternates three different operas on the same stage on consecutive nights. Besides, since 1997 the route of the Festival has been intertwined with “The Roads of Friendship”. Leading on these paths as a cultural ambassador is Riccardo Muti, with orchestras and choirs that in the name of the universality of music have given life to unforgettable events in such symbolic sites as Beirut, Jerusalem, Moscow, Yerevan, Istanbul, New York, Damascus.
