Paper & Pulp and Water Application using SIMATIC PCS 7 Speaker :HeinrichBertlCompany :AdritzTechnologiesLtd.
China
Abstract:
To effectively achieve an isothermal status inside a pilot-plant reactor, model predictive control (MPC) has been applied for regulating its multiple heaters cooperatively. In this application, 5 PID controllers are used for heater control at each reactor are cascades with 2 supervisory MPC controllers. Instead of an indirect, manual manner applied in conventional method, the MPC controllers regulate 6 internal temperatures simultaneously to keep isotherm and target average bed temperature (ABT) as desired. The temperature control of the pilot reactor is realized by using the function block “model predictive control” of the SIMATIC PCS 7 standard library. For controller design the corresponding engineering tool, which is also part of SIMATIC PCS 7 standard library, was used. The desribed reactor control has been applied in all 4 sets of redundant automation stations, which are in charge of 8 pilot reactors in total.
The experience after 8 months of operation using this model predictive control from PCS 7 has shown that the improvements achieved are not only in stabilizing isotherm of reactor, but also significantly reducing the number of manual interventions and increasing the accuracy of the leading ABT control. The applied embedded model predictive control is highly accepted by the operators.
The presentation illustrates the implementation steps, results and experience with the embedded model predictive control function in SIMATIC PCS 7 from the beginning until use in operation.

Modernization of Furnace Control System of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation - Mandaue Glass Plant using SIMATIC PCS 7 DCS Speaker :EngineerAndreySerato :EngineerAllanOlmillaCompany :SanMiguelYamamuraPackagingCorporation
Philippines
Abstract:
San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation Philippines company decided to make a major investment in its furnace process control, including the melter, refiner and forehearths, annealing lehrs, and production counters. The entire process control was to be upgraded from 20-year-old single-loop control technology to a state-of-the-art distributed control system. As Siemens had already successfully completed a Simatic PCS 7 project for San Miguel Yamamura Asia that had a comparable scope and technology, SMYPC was confident that Siemens had the glass process know-how, automation technology expertise, and portfolio required for such a project. Moreover, Siemens was able to offer excellent local engineering capabilities and support.
For the modernization project in Mandaue, Siemens supplied a Simatic PCS 7 system with three redundant PCS 7 automation systems and four operator systems. One big challenge was the tight time frame: the furnace controls had to be replaced during an emergency repair of the furnace. In this critical phase, Siemens was able to demonstrate its project management and support capabilities.
SMYPC will discuss how they had benefitted from local expertise during operation and how the Philippine team from Siemens provides the fast and cost-effective support they needed.

Plant-wide Automation: Physical Refining Plant 1,3,5,6,7 Main Deodorizer, Main Hydrogenator, Enzyme Inter Esterification, and Fractionation Speaker :EngineerGerryGuanlao :EngineerEymardMatalogCompany :Oleofats,Inc.
Abstract:
In terms of manufacturing, what takes place at the Oleo-Fats site is essentially a (continuous) refining process on the vegetable oil feedstock, which comes in the form of crude coconut oil originating from fruit of Cocos nucifera, an oil crop that is widely grown in the Philippines, as well as other vegetable oils.
The processing steps to get to a refined oil include degumming, neutralization, bleaching, and deodorization. That straight oil can then be sold as a frying product, or undergo further processing such as blending or hydrogenating to realize a number of other products available from Oleo-Fats, such as for ice cream and soft candy applications, and hamburger buns and other baked products. In this case study, we will learn how Oleo-fats high-level of consistency standards on production output and quality levels were realized when this edible oil manufacturer turned to Siemens for its automation requirement for its Philippines refinery.

Safe and Intelligent Process Control through Integrated and Control & Safety System (ICSS)
Speaker :A.T.M.J.Soetjahjo(Judi)Company :SBMMalaysiaSdn.Bhd.
Speaker :DavidOngCompany :ExcelMarcoPte.Ltd.
Singapore
Abstract:
Today, many users are finding logical reasons to justify using similar systems for control and safety functions, such as reducing the problems associated with different programming procedures, languages, installation requirements, and maintenance. There is always the risk that these different procedures might contribute to human error and possible safety problems.
The financial benefits of using similar systems are also clear; reduced hardware, configuration, training, and inventory costs result from the reduced range and quantity of equipment that is required. In addition the burden of different service and support help associated with disparate systems is removed.
The new distributed safety concept from Siemens enables programming of safety functions in the same graphical environment used to configure non-safety functions, but in distinctly different organizational units within the project. Safety functions are also colour-coded so that they are readily distinguishable from non-safety functions. This allows safety functions to be designed, reviewed, commissioned and locked in, while non-safety related code can be edited without restriction.
Siemens’ solutions allow the company to offer any of the three levels of integration, depending on users’ preferences. All three configurations are certified by TÜV for up to SIL 3 applications.

Speaker :BrianTrappCompany :RovisysAsia
Abstract:
In 2008 Renewable Energy Corporation started the construction of the one of the world’s largest Integrated wafer, cell and module manufacturing facilities, located in Tuas, Singapore. The plant was officially opened by Prime Minister Lee on November 3, 2010. This milestone is the largest single investment ever made by REC, the largest clean tech investment ever made in Singapore at 2.5 billion Singapore dollars (about EUR 1.3 billion).
The control of the Utilities and Infrastructure (U&I) equipment of the plant were integrated into a single, redundant, customized, PCS 7 v7.0 system solution (U&I Control System), allowing operations to control, monitor, trend and report from one central control room. The systems includes Tower Water, 5 and 15 degree C Chilled water, Process Water and Emergency Cooling. In addition information and control of the other package systems were also integrated into the U&I Control system, including Building Management (HVAC, VAV, and Datacenter), Power Management, Fire Alarm and Suppressions, Chillers, Gas Supply, Waste Water and Compressed Dry Air. Finally, information from the Wafer, Cell and Module plants are also exchanged through the U&I Control System.
The project utilized over 20 remote I/O panels connected via Single Mode Fibre Optic OLM’s to accommodate the installations in the furthest corners of the plant, with approximately 18,000 OPC tags. The presentation will cover the project scope, main challenges and benefits of the chosen solution.

Achieving Operations Excellence in Industries
Speaker :ParthaRayCompany :SiemensPteLtd.SingaporeOil&GasConsulting
Abstract:
Most businesses are in critical need of simple visibility into business basics that would allow them to mange their operations most effectively. Industry have tried to cater to this need through complex IT projects where the approaches were fundamentally based on an acute emphasis on business automation, optimization, and artificial intelligence, and most importantly isolating employees from the decision-making process.
“Operations Intelligence” on the other hand is an approach that brings back people in the decision loop and enables the business to exploit its untapped intellectual capital. It empowers people with “information” and makes use of their natural heuristic abilities to derive solutions. Re-establishing employees in the decision loop is an enlightened philosophy that has delivered tangible business benefits for supermajors, regional companies and national oil companies alike using our “Operations Intelligence” solutions.
The presentation will cover the “Operations Intelligence” concept and will be followed by a case study based on projects implemented by various refineries and Chemical plants in the world where the velocity and quality of operational decisions were radically improved through “Operations Intelligence”.

Best Practices for Pressure Relief & Flare Evergreening
Speaker :KenYongCompany :SiemensPteLtd.SingaporeOil&GasConsulting
Abstract:
The concept of evergreening is not new in the O&G process industries. This has been applied directly through internal work processes or indirectly via the Management of Change (MOC) work process to applicable plant assets, systems and/or information that are either mandated by regulations and/or company policies. Examples of evergreening include Operating Procedures, PHA reports, P&IDs, Mechanical Integrity information etc. However, one of the safety critical information which most companies do not practice evergreening is the Pressure Relief and Flare design basis information. This presentation explains the benefits of the Pressure Relief and Flare evergreening and how it can improve the overall safety of the plant.

Independence of Safety Controls and their Integration with DCS
Speaker: :StanleyJosephCompany :SiemensBusinessDevelopmentAsia ProcessSafety
Abstract:
Integrated Control and Safety Systems offer many new opportunities and at the same time requires knowledge of measures that needs to be taken care of. The topic of ICSS is often hotly debated among safety professionals and users. Relevant IEC standards mandate separated protection layers for safety (SIS) and control systems (BPCS).
In addition to cost savings, integration gives the possibility of using better integrated tools which in turn can help reduce the possibility of systematic errors. Such tools can straddle the divide between control & safety, auto-generating code for safety systems whilst creating “cause & effect” style operator interfaces for the operator without the need for manual data mapping and custom design of graphics. Integrated tools can also help to manage subsequent change on the plant. The topics that would be discusses includes the measures that can be taken to fit this requirement within an ICSS, the degree of integration that is right for any project and what we should be aware of.

Speaker :JessicaLiaoCompany :SiemensPte.Ltd. RegionalSystemsandSupport
Abstract:
With SIMATIC powerrate, we offer you an add-on to our SIMATIC WinCC visualization system and our SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system. SIMATIC powerrate scales, visualizes, and archives mean energy and power values and assigns a time stamp for the period monitored.
Selected values can be monitored by connecting our SENTRON PAC power monitoring devices and SENTRON switching and protection devices. Some of the values that can be measured are active power and active energy, current, and voltage. When integrated into the system by means of digital inputs and outputs, the switch state can be displayed and the switch remotely controlled through a faceplate. Load profiles, visualized using WinCC and PCS 7, provide you with a fast and precise overview of the usage values.
