Neuro-developmental differentiation (NDD) takes our knowledge on resilience and positive education into classrooms where it can make the most difference. One of the most powerful ways we can build resilience is to have students discover how to be successful learners.

Based on neuroscience, NDD looks at which parts of learners’ brains are developed as strengths and which are yet to develop. It then looks at ways to utilise learning strengths to overcome or supplement areas that are yet to develop. These learning strength areas will include spatial reasoning, number smarts, word smarts, planning and sequencing, thinking and logic, concentration and memory, perceptual and motor skills, and people smarts.

This workshop will help participants understand NSSI and how we can assist young people in learning to manage difficult thoughts and emotions.

From this session, you will walk away with: › A deeper understanding of the presentations of NSSI behaviours, outside of “attention seeking, manipulation labels” › The possible causes of NSSI behaviour› Greater conversational confidence in approaching a young person you are concerned about › Confident referral and management approaches in engaging a young person to seek help

These workshops will unpack the neuroscience around why some of our children/young people/adults may act in ways that can often astound us. How can they reach fever pitch emotion in seconds? How can some continue to rage for what seems like hours? This workshop will explain what might have encouraged these behaviours to develop, and what is going on for them in that moment.

You will also learn about yourself in that moment. With increased self- awareness we can become so much better equipped to help those around us return to a state of calm. Dealing with these children/youth can be extremely upsetting, daunting, exhausting and even scary. This workshop will increase your understanding, and therefore your ability to work with those who often reach levels of extreme stress. This is an essential workshop for those who work in the area of severe behaviour.

Understand and differentiate between stress, anxiety and other mental illnesses, and explore practical ways we can assist young people within the education framework.

From this session, you will walk away with:

› The importance of seeing the benefits of handling stress and anxiety evoking situations for children and your part in that.› A deeper understanding of mental illnesses and the identification of the road blocks to learning.› Increased teacher confidence in assessing behaviours specific to mental illness, particularly anxiety disorders.› Ideas that create classroom/school cultures that embrace the presence of mental illness with practical strategies and approaches to assisting children manage their own minds and reach education goals.

When it comes to understanding how your mind works there are a multitude of approaches, each with a different way of exploring how our minds handle the world. This interesting and exciting keynote examines how these four frameworks provide insights into the dimensions of our mental health and how each of these facets impacts on our well-being.

This highly interactive, fast paced, challenging and enjoyable presentation delves into:

1. The Four Humours – how your personality affects your world view.

2. The Four Mindsets – highlights your developmental mindset growth and introduces you to new mindsets that you may not be aware of.

3.The Four Intelligences – Intelligence, Emotional and Positive Quotients and Connectional Intelligence.

4.The Four Tendencies which is all about how you deal with expectation.

Throughout the keynote address you will track your own responses and gain real insights as to how we interact in and with the world and how wisdom of the centuries can be used to align our well-being today.

A session for teachers who want to help students understand brain function and how to improve performance.

Building on the previous day’s key note on Neuro-developmental Differentiation, this session will enable teachers to have students who know how their brains work, what their learning strengths are and how to use these to develop other areas of learning.

To gain fully from this session it is recommended that participants complete their own learning strengths analysis at www.mylearningstrengths.com and bring their free letter to the session.

Anxiety is a very normal part of being human but when it intrudes into the classroom, the effects can be fierce. With the right support, students can be empowered with the skills and knowledge to manage anxiety and move forward with courage and resilience. These presentations will explore the different ways anxiety manifests at school, as well as a range of practical, powerful interventions that can be used to respond effectively to anxiety in the classroom, manage difficult behaviour driven by anxiety, and build courage and resilience at school.
