Rev. Annie Melick

Christ is Risen – He is Risen Indeed!

By Rev. Annie Melick

A traditional greeting on Easter morning at churches across theworld is to say, “Christ is risen.” The other responds, “He is

risen indeed.” This is an amazing theological statement that weare making!

Some of the things we are saying when we recite these greetings are: • Jesus defeated death – for himself, and for us. • Jesus is who he claimed to be. • Jesus is God. • We can live victoriously, hopefully, and confidently!

I hope you will be able to participate in the special events planned for Holy Week. This is thehighlight of our Christian year!

This is also a great time to invite friends to join you at church. Let’s pray that we will have theprivilege of sharing the peace of the risen Christ with many this year.

MY SCHOOLMATES OF YESTER YEAR

AT CONDIT TOOK UP A VARIETY OFVOCATIONS IN LIFE

By F. C. Murphy

As I look back on four score years of memory’spages I see again the beautiful faces of those joyouschildhood years. Those schoolmates that played“Blackman” and “Fox and Geese” in the school yardand ran over the sod in the cemetery beneath whichnow many of them lie while others have gone to thefour corners of the earth some to Alaska’s snowy north, others to India’s torrid sands.

There are Herman and Minnie Ringer whosefather’s farm joined ours, who were almost our dailyplaymates. Herman married Lou Conklin and Minniemarried Kirk Conklin. Later they bought the SouthCondit Store which Minnie operated until her death.

Daisy Clark was a vivacious girl who loved to go. She went with many of the boys who had a good horseand buggy. She was thinking too much about the boysto spend much time on her lessons. She married WillerCunningham who bought a farm east of Condit wherethey became successful farmers.

Always Directed Church DinnersAbbie Hough was another girl who liked to go with

the boys rather than spend time on her books. Shemarried Robert “Bob” Wright who had worked some

years in a restaurant as a cook so Abbie and Bob werealways given charge of the menus at all of the churchdinners and suppers and always did an excellent job. They never had any children.

Maud Bailey raised just across the road from theschool house was a quiet timid girl who never took partin the boisterous games. She married Edgar Williamswho set out a large orchard at North Condit that is stillproducing an abundance of apples.

Lide and Ona Whitney were as unlike as two sisterscould be. Lide was a rough loud voiced boisterous girlwho physically mastered up all. She was a beautifulwriter and the finest singer in school but never near thetop of the class. Ona was a quiet studious girl well likedby all her schoolmates. She later married PearlStanforth who was appointed superintendent of theDelaware County Home and Ona became the head of thewomen’s department which she managed quiteefficiently. Their spoiled little brother, Oatfield, laterbecame a successful state senator and owned thisnewspaper.

Was Successful in Real EstateBernie Wilson was the dumb one, sisters Ina and

Lida were both exceptionally good students. Bernie latermarried Eunice Price who became a helpmate. Theymoved to Westerville where they engaged in a successfulreal estate business.

Dwight Wylie the preacher’s son was a marvelousstudent always at the top of his class with seeminglylittle effort. Later he became a preacher and at the timeof his death was pastor of the First Presbyterian Churchof New York City. (To be continued)
