What I’ve learnt during thisproduction

As A-Level is the first time I have taken media, I believe I have learnt a lot about how a production is made. Before taking the subject, I did have some interest in producing and editing films, but never in as great details as we do now.

Planning• I have learnt how to efficiently and effectively plan a production. This helped as it

ensured nothing was missed out and prevented such errors ad continuity issues or missing clips.

• This helped with the other aspects of the production as it ensure they could happen smoothly with nothing forgotten about which would have to be rushed later

• This ensured that the production was to the greatest quality we could manage, and made the whole process a large amount easier.

Filming• I learnt a large amount of different camera angles, shot types and filming

techniques and what each one connoted in a character or situation. This helped to ensure that we were portraying the correct message with our shots, and that the audience would see from our perspective.

• On a basic level, I learnt how to properly set up camera equipment and how to set up a set in several different aspects, for example the correct lighting, colour correction on the camera or what should be in focus.

• This also helped with the quality of the footage, as shaky, out of focus footage does not help the audience to understand the narrative.

Editing• A learnt how to properly edit clips together, taking into consideration shot length

and pacing to create certain feelings within the audience. • I also learnt how to do several advanced editing techniques such as using a green

screen to change the background of a shot. This was helpful as we were working on an extremely low budget, meaning we had to swap out an actual scenario for a staged one.

• On a more detailed level, I learnt how to change aspects about footage after they have been filmed. This could include the framing, the zoom, or the colour correction. Understanding this could help create effects such as the time of day or the intensity of a situation.

Conclusion• In conclusion, I believe I have learnt a tremendous amount of techniques in order

to create the final product. I believe these techniques were taught very well, and greatly aided the quality of the production, and ensured that it was finished to the greatest standard possible.
