ROLLING

Hot rolling is a hot working metal working process where large pieces of metal, such as slabs or billets, are heated above their recrystallization temperature and then deformed between rollers to form thinner cross sections.

FORGING

Forging is a manufacturing process involving the shaping of metal using localized compressive forces.

Classification

• Cold forging

• Hot forging

EXTRUSION

Extrusion is the process by which long straight metal parts can be produced. Extrusion is done by squeezing metal in a closed cavity through a tool, known as a die using either a mechanical or hydraulic press.

HOT DRAWING

• Drawing is a plastic deformation process in which a flat sheet or plate is formed into a recessed, three-dimensional part with a depth more than several times the thickness of the metal.

ANNEALING

Annealing is a heat process whereby a metal is heated to a specific temperature /color and then allowed to cool slowly. This softens the metal which means it can be cut and shaped more easily. Mild steel, is heated to a red heat and allowed to cool slowly.

• reduce the hardness

• improve machine ability

• Improve Ductility

QUENCHING

• In materials science, quenching, a type of heat treating, is the rapid cooling of a work piece to obtain certain material properties.
