MANTRAS AND PRAYERS

Page 23: Concept of Mantras

When a mantra is sung or chanted, whether by oneself or in a group of devoted aspirants, it is termed as kirtan — the glorification of God.

Prayers or symbolic stories of God may also be sung in a kirtan.

The singing and chanting of kirtan creates an elevated mental condition for practicing meditation or entering into an intense form of spiritual practice.

Kirtan is a powerful and unique method of recharging the subconscious with spiritual vibrations.

Worldly realm, is based on views of "Self" and grasping to "Self.“

Thus, to comprehend worldly affairs one should observe and discern from the point that each and every one is self-centered.

Views of "Self" not only confine people, but also prevent people from recognizing reality.

Page 27: Concept of Mantras

Psychology is also constructed on the notion of "Self," and hence applications based on psychology could hardly avoid the mistakes of not being in touch with reality.

To relieve sufferings in the worldly realm one needs to comprehend Dharma that is beyond the views of "Self."

Only then can we expect guidance that will lead to true emancipation.

Sarve santu nirāmayā ||

sarve bhadrā i paśyantu |

Mā kaścit dukha bhāgbhavet ||

May all be happy.

May all be healthy.

May all realize that which is the ultimate truth.

May no one ever be unhappy.

Page 36: Concept of Mantras

Om Purnamadah Purnamidam Poornat Poornamudachayate. Poornasya Poornamadaya Poornamevavashisyayate. Om Shantih, shantih shantihi.

All that is perceptible here is basically infinite. The 'cause' of all of this 'effect' too is one infinite truth. If we just negate the notion of 'separate independent existence' of all 'effects' then we come to directly realize the one transcendental infinite divinity as our very Self. May there be peace to all.
