DEFINITIONConcept maps are graphical tools for
organizing and representing knowledge. They help you represent
ideas in a clearer way (Novak & Cañas, 2008)
Their objective is to state propositions (meaningful ideas) by
connecting concepts.

COMPONENTS Concept maps include concepts, linking words and
propositions:
1. Concepts: Labels designating objects, events, animals, people or special characteristics. You can use 1 or more words.
2. Linking words: Words connecting two concepts
3. Propositions: Propositions are statements about some objects or events in the universe. They contain two or more concepts connected by linking words to form a meaningful idea (Novak, 2008).

CHARACTERISTICS Concept maps are represented in a hierarchical
way with the most general concepts at the top of the map and the most specific concepts below.
Design: The concepts can be represented as points, boxes or geometric shapes. The lines can be curved or straight.
It is best to construct concept maps with reference to some particular question we seek to answer, which we have called a focus question.
