An office suite is: An interconnected bundle of programs that share resources with

each other Designed to help workers accomplish tasks they perform in an

office

Two versions of Microsoft Office: Home and Student

Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and One Note Professional

Includes Home and Student version, Access, Publisher, and Outlook

Quick Access Toolbar and Ribbon

The Quick Access Toolbar is used to save or print without going through a menu sequence.

The Ribbon allows you to manage and modify documents through functions listed in the tabs and groups.



Tabs

Tabs contain categories of tasks you can accomplish within an application.



Groups

Groups, located under the tabs, contain pictures on buttons.



Clip Organizer

The Clip Organizer is a repository of clip art and images that can be inserted into a document.



Smart Tags

Smart tags are icons attached to items, text, or data that are pasted in. The tags are recognized as places where options displayed as buttons might be utilized.



Templates

Templates are document frameworks that are created once and used many times.



Wizards

Wizards provide a step-by-step process for solving problems.

Microsoft Excel

Excel is the most popular spreadsheet program. Spreadsheets are designed to store and manipulate

numbers. Each Excel file is called a workbook. The user interface is similar to that of Microsoft Word.



The Excel Worksheet Components

The worksheet is composed of columns and rows. The intersection of a row and column is called a cell. Two or more cells selected at the same time is called

a range of cells. Text, numbers, formulas, and functions can be

entered into cells. Charts can also be created in a worksheet.

Microsoft Access

Access is a database management system (DBMS). Databases capture, store, manipulate, and report data

and information. The user interface is similar to that of Word and

Excel.

Objects – Used to manage and present data Table – Stores data Data set – Describes content of table Form – Collects data Query – Asks questions of the database Report – Presents data

A form provides a polished interface to the records that are stored in tables.



Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint is used to create and deliver presentations.

Text and graphics are entered onto a slide. Slide shows can be viewed using a monitor or video

projector.
