Objectives (cont.)This course will enable you to develop logical thinking skills, including:• Identifying the sequence of steps including possible

decisions and alternatives• Identifying normal and exceptional behaviors of a solution• Measuring and evaluating solutions against the success

criteria• Adjusting the design and implementation as needed

Page 7: Computational Thinking for Information Technology

ExpectationsIn your first months here, you will learn new technologies, research cutting-edge technologies, prepare documents, create and deliver presentations, and design and develop websites for clients.

These assignments may take you out of your comfort zone and push you to think in new ways. However, we are certain that the excitement of solving these challenges will more than make up for the difficulties you might encounter.

We expect each of you to make the client’s needs

your priority by contributing to your team and

producing quality, finished products on time.

We have worked hard to develop a reputation for

excellence, and are currently the industry leader in

consulting services in information technology. We

hope to be the industry leader in the region within

the next five years. I hope you will be an integral

part of helping us reach that goal.

Project OverviewYour consulting firm has been selected by the client to use the software Alice to make an animation that completes the following story:

“Alice is shocked to find Bob doing somethingcompletely unexpected…”

Your animation should tell a story of two or more characters (at least Alice and Bob). There needs to be a recognizable plot, with these elements:• Exposition – telling of the history and motivations of the characters

• Conflict – a problem that one or more of the characters must solve

• Climax - what happens when the conflict is resolved

• Resolution – the end of the story

TASK 1: CREATE STORYBOARD

In this task, you will create a storyboard from which you will build your animation.

Page 16: Computational Thinking for Information Technology

Task 1 DeliverablesIn this task, you will be creating a storyboard for your animated story. Storyboarding is incredibly important when creating an animation so that you can ensure that there are transitions and good flow to your animation.

To prepare you for this task you will be given access to Alice and some basic tutorial instruction to demonstrate what Alice allows you to create and what it cannot do.

TASK 2: BUILD YOUR ANIMATION

Congratulations on creating your storyboard! In this task you will program

the animation for your story.

Task 2 DeliverablesTo encourage you to explore Alice features, your project must meet or exceed the following technical requirements. Your world must include at a minimum:

• 3 objects that you place in the world

• 3 loops; two of them different types of loops

• Camera and object motion

• Run-time of at least 60 seconds

Task 2 Deliverables (cont.)To prepare to complete this project you will be given access to Alice and basic tutorial on how to use Alice and its functionality. You are expected to complete additional tutorials and research on the project on your own.

You will submit your final animated story to the Creative Director for review.
