• The Government has to manage the amount of money it spends against the amount of money it receives.

• At the moment the Government spends a lot more than it receives.

Government Spending Review The Government has been working out the best way to spend the money is has, to pay for all Government activity like;

This is called a spending review.

• All public bodies, like Devon County Council will be getting less money from Government to provide services and will need to make tough choices on how to reduce costs and save money.

• This means Devon will need to look at everything it does and what things are most important.

• Devon wants everyone to have the opportunity to have their say and share their ideas.

• All of them are very different.

• Some are market towns like Crediton, and some are coastal Towns like Exmouth.

• Devon County Council wants to know what is important to you and your community.

• The Leader of Devon County Council, Councillor John Hart is attending “Leader Roadshows” across Devon.

• The Leader Roadshows will help people understand about “Tough Choices”.

and• people will have the opportunity

to have their say and ask questions.

• You do not have to attend the Roadshows to have your say, you can;

• Ask the leader – send the leader of the Council John Hart an e-mail with your question.

• We need to start thinking about how any changes to services, not just social care, may affect vulnerable people and their families, for example;

– Housing– Employment– Leisure– Transport– Social activities– Welfare - Benefits

• School budgets 0.1% increase

• This year 24% cut in our main Grant

• Non-schools budgets at least 12% cuts

• Have to focus on frontline services and vulnerable people

• Looking at Youth Service, Social Work, Catering and Cleaning and Health Partnerships

• Adult social care 38% of DCC budget

• 25% cut is 28% in real terms

• Critical & substantial needs priorities

• Pay freeze, vacancy management & support cuts

• More external provision, ‘reablement’

• More Personal budgets, more self-help
