Initial Assessment:Dudley High School ensures that all teachers receive opportunities for instructional growth through walk-throughs conducted by administrative staff. A weekly walk-through schedule is utilized to ensure that each department receives walk-throughs from each member of the administrative team monthly. An electronic walk-through form is utilized by the administrative team to record real time walk-through notes and to provide teachers with immediate feedback.

Dudley High School provides teachers with bi-weekly Professional Growth opportunities through Curriculum Matters meetings. The meetings are planned and facilitated by our Instructional Coach and Curriculum Facilitator and address specific strategies to increase student achievement and teacher effectiveness.

Limited Development 07/24/2019

How it will lookwhen fully met: When this objective is fully met teachers will receive effective feedback

from instructional leaders and receive high leveraged, measurable, bite-sized action steps to improve teacher performance. Data is collected and recorded for all teacher observations and walk-throughs. This data is aggregated and trends are identified with a focus on improved instruction. The walk-through data trends are shared with the Leadership Team and serves as a guide for updates to policy and the school's improvement plan. Growth areas are identified and celebrated and areas for growth are addressed through professional development opportunities.

KEY A1.07 ALL teachers employ effective classroom management and reinforce classroom rules and procedures by positively teaching them.(5088)

Implementation Status Assigned To Target Date

Initial Assessment: Dudley High ensures that all teachers establish and positively teach and reinforce consistent rules and procedures in their classrooms by developing those skills through coaching, walk-throughs and timely feedback that focused on classroom management. Our teachers are required to display classroom rules and expectations in their classroom that is visible to entire class. We also instruct our teachers to include a time in their daily lesson plans, at the beginning of the year, to teach and reinforce their classroom expectations. In addition, Dudley High School is an award winning PBIS school. Our PBIS expectations are posted prominently in the hallways, classrooms, offices, cafeteria and throughout our hallways. Students who consistently follow expectations are rewarded with special recognitions and other incentives. Our teachers attend on-site professional development where they receive training on strategies to ensure that our teachers understand the tools needed to teach student how to solve problems creatively, respect one another. Our teachers are also encouraged to communicate effectively and to build relationships with their students and their students families. Responses on the 2016 Teacher Working Condition Survey indicates that our school is not at full implementation of this goal. Many of our teachers expressed that they felt student's at Dudley do not always know or adhere to the rules. They also expressed that teachers inconsistently reinforce the rules.

The gradual release component of this instruction system will allow for students to receive direct instruction, guided practice, small group activities, and independent practice to engage and then reflect upon their learning. This model also allows instructional leaders to discuss the instructional quality of a lesson based upon a school-wide standard for instructional delivery.

KEY A4.16 The school develops and implements consistent, intentional, and on-going plans to support student transitions for grade-to-grade and level-to-level.(5134)

Implementation Status Assigned To Target Date

Initial Assessment: Schools must establish and maintain ongoing plans to support student transitions. At Dudley High School we offer programs to support or incoming ninth grade students and our students transitioning from high school to college and careers. All of our ninth grade students are enrolled into our Freshmen Academy. Through this program our ninth grade students are physically separated from the rest of the student body for most of the day and provided with intensive and engaging transition supports. A second counselor has been added to the Freshman Academy to help reduce the percentage of students with early warning indicators. Dudley also provides services to ensure that our students can transition smoothly after high school. Our senior students have access to a fulltime college advisor and guidance counselor. Monthly senior meetings are held to ensure that our parents receive the supports needed to prepare for their students transition. We also offer an Early College Academy that allows our students to take college level courses on a college campus in their Jr. and Sr. year. Our school also partners with a magnet program that allows students to explore technical and performing arts pathways. In addition to a variety of programs, our school seeks to build the capacity of our faculty to address diverse student needs by facilitating bi-monthly PD, weekly PLC's and district wide professional development opportunities.

Implementation Status Assigned To Target Date

Initial Assessment: Dudley High School has mechanisms in place to consistently monitor classroom instruction and provide clear and consistent feedback. Such mechanisms include informal walk-throughs, observations, peer observations, and data analysis. Despite the variety of mechanisms available for effective instructional monitoring, missed opportunities for timely feedback have been noted. Core Function: Dimension C - Professional CapacityEffective Practice: Quality of professional development

KEY C2.01 The LEA/School regularly looks at school performance data and aggregated classroom observation data and uses that data to make decisions about school improvement and professional development needs.(5159)

Implementation Status Assigned To Target Date

Initial Assessment: Dudley High School implemented a school-wide plan to address deficiencies with our overall ACT composite scores after reviewing data from several previous ACT scores. Dudley’s plan involves all classroom teachers from every content area and every grade level in reviewing released ACT questions once a week on a specific schedule. Reflection upon current practices reveals our need to provide support for our teachers in the teaching and learning process, specifically with increasing opportunities for our teachers to learn new instructional strategies and practices through intentional professional development that is based on our students’ needs.

Limited Development 04/25/2016

How it will lookwhen fully met:

Upon review of school performance and aggregated classroom data Dudley High School will focus on school improvement and professional development needs at the school, classroom, and student levels. At the school level, teachers will implement data driven instruction by learning how to understand and analyze pertinent school data. At the classroom level, teacher training will be tailored to research based practices such as backwards design, student engagement, increasing rigor in the classroom, and understanding the critical vocabulary of the curriculum standards. The student level focus will include consistency in classroom routines, developing student relationships, differentiation, building capacity in instruction, and remediation. By June 2018, the full implementation of the indicator will be demonstrated by the successful completion of our school's goal which states; By June 2018, Dudley High School will increase proficiency in Biology from 32% to 42%; Math I from 29.9% to 40%; English II from 43.6% to 53% as measured by the NC End of Course Exam. Dudley High School will increase its overall ACT composite from 15.1% to 19.0% by June 2018.

Initial Assessment: Dudley High School strives for consistent communication with our families. Grade level meetings for parents and students are also regularly scheduled throughout the school year to provide further information specifically pertaining to that grade level. Limited Development 04/26/2016

Priority Score: 2 Opportunity Score: 2 Index Score: 4

How it will lookwhen fully met:

Dudley High teachers and staff will have the ability to reach a greater community of parents. Dudley High will continue to routinely reach parents through weekly updates, informational meetings, and use of electronic media. A concerted effort to monitor student attendance will identify at risk students for lost instructional time and potential no credit status. The school will focus on smaller groups, such as high-risk students with attendance and disciplinary issues. This will allow the school to develop processes for ensuring parents/guardians are aware of academic consequences and strategies for improvement. By June 2017, the full implementation of the indicator will be demonstrated by the successful completion of our school's goal which states; By June 2017,Dudley High School decrease the number of in-school and out-of-school suspensions by 10% from 837 incidents to 753 incidents as measured by the school discipline report.
