• A collection of input and output devices connected to a computing device which will perform either general tasks or specific tasks.

• Anything that is connected to or runs on a computer is part of the computer system!

• General computer systems –– These are systems which we are used to. We can

play games, do work, chat with friends or surf the web!

• Specific computer systems –– These are systems which will only perform a single

task. – For example a airplane computer system or a

shops till.

– A Micro-processor is a multipurpose chip which can sequences of instructions known as software

– The bulk of the processor is padding and connections. The actually chip (known as the die) is the small square in the centre.

• It can run software (like a mobile phone application)

• Devices which use a micro-processor normally need to perform lots of instructions in order to do a single task.

• For example a sky+ box would need to be able to schedule recordings. This would be done by the micro-processor.
