WHAT DOES AS2941 SPECIFY?
In General:-• Foreword:
• provides minimum requirements for FIRE pump sets• Based on sound engineering principles, test data and field experience
• Scope:• Totally independent pump set systems• Specific requirements for pumps, drivers, pump controllers and auxiliary
equipment for FIRE pump sets• Requirements for installation and acceptance testing for electrical and
compression-ignition drivers

WHY DO WE NEED AS2941?
A very good Question! Why do we need any standard?
We need AS2941 so that we can be confident that the fire pump set will do its job effectively in the event that it is required to run to
protect life and property from a fire.

WHAT GUARANTEE DO YOU HAVE FOR COMPLIANCE?
Are the words:Certificate of Conformance
“This is to certify that the ABC Pump Company electric fire pump serial number XYZ123 built and tested on factory order 12345/1 complies with the requirements of AS2941-2013”.
Sufficient?

WHAT DOES COMPLIANCE LOOK LIKE?
Electric Panel8.2.4e – is capable of being locked in the ON position (power on)8.2.8 – touch screens shall not be used for primary operation – start, stop & reset8.2.19 – each driver control device and each switch and circuit breaker shall be marked to indicate plainly the name of the manufacturer, model number and applicable electrical rating

WHAT DOES COMPLIANCE LOOK LIKE?
Diesel Panel9.3.6.5 – Manual shutdown shall be accomplished by means of a hold-on push button manual stop switch9.4.4 – is capable of being locked in the ON position (power on)9.4.6 – touch screens shall not be used for primary operation – start, stop & reset9.4.21 – similar wording to 8.2.19 regarding labelling.

WHAT DOES NON-COMPLIANCE LOOKLIKE?
Power cables must be a minimum of 300mm above the floor
Incorrect gauge installation
No isolation valve
downstream of mains
bypass check valve &
pipework is unsupported placing high
stress on pump
nozzles
Pressure switch loop is unsupported
– no vibration isolation

WHAT DOES NON-COMPLIANCE LOOKLIKE?
Both the main cooling line and the bypass cooling line must contain a pressure regulating valve – not
one for both
No check valve downstream of the bypass strainer
Stress on hose – poor manufacture
only

SUMMING UP - THE ISSUES
Who would complete a check list?We see the document being the responsibility of numerous individuals.Perhaps it should be split or sectioned for the following:
• System Designer• Pumpset Manufacturer• Installation Contractor
• Certifier• Building Surveyor
