The IR 500 A is a completestand-alone system designedfor every rework application.No special training or addi-tional items are required. The user-friendly operatinginstructions will assist andensure that all operatorsconduct process controlledrework in minutes.

In contrast to hot air systems,the ERSA dark IR radiatorsguarantee uniform absorption,and even heating across theentire surface of the compon-ent and substrate. Uniformheating is essential for pro-cess controlled installationsof BGAs. In contrast to systemsusing visible or light IR (shortwavelength), dark IR radiators

are specifically designed forPCB applications. Light IRcauses an uneven absorption/reflection ratio betweenobjects darker in color andobjects lighter in color. Thiscan lead to overheating ofthe component body andsubstrate before reflow hasbeen achieved at the leads.The top and bottom ERSA

Unlike the myriad of hot airsystems on the market whichrequire a different nozzle forevery different component,the use of dark IR radiatorsallows ERSA to greatly reduceoperational costs. The top IRradiator has a patented X-Yaperture system which elimin-ates the use of nozzles ortemplates. All sizes and shapes

of components from 10 to 50 mm (0.4-2.0 in) in lengthcan be rapidly and safelyremoved or installed withoutunnecessary overheating ofadjacent components. A simple setting of the X-Yaperture on the top IR radi-ator is all that is needed - no nozzles are required!

Safety, ease-of-use, andrepeatable results by alloperators were the drivingforces behind the Auto-IR-concept. The component tobe removed is rapidly locat-ed with the help of a fixedaxis laser positioning device,and is precisely positionedin the middle of the top andbottom IR radiators. A spring supported vacuumpipette which is centered inthe top IR radiator is auto-matically placed on thecenter of the component.When reflow is achieved, thecomponent is automaticallylifted off the board, therebyreducing any risk of over-heating - no contact, nofuss, no risk of damage!

The integrationof the revolutionary ERSAMICRO-CON 60 iA offers theexpansion of the unit toinclude a total of 6 varioustools (four currently availa-ble) to handle essentiallyevery rework, repair andsoldering application. Thecompact size provides an idealworkplace with integratedPCB holder and bottom sidepreheating for touch-up andany other hand solderingjob. From ultra-fine-pitch tohigh-mass aluminum hous-ings, from temperature sensi-tive Flex and Polyamid substrate to the heaviestmultilayer, from 0402 micro-chips, SMD and thru-holesockets, to Pin Grid Arrayand BGA, the IR 500 A is theanswer to total flexibility!

Low temperature removal,replacement, and touch upwith any of the optional toolsis safe and easy. The bottomside dark IR radiator is theperfect preheat system for themost difficult of PCB substrates.
