Balance Cost With Performance

Curtainwall cladding often comprises 20% of construction cost on new projects. Specialist consultants can increase your success in achieving design, budget, and performance targets.

Proactively Avoid Failures

Curtain wall cladding failures are the second leading cause of building construction problems. Bringing an expert onto the design team early in the design process is adding the best insurance against cladding pitfalls. Specialist consultants quickly pinpoint problem areas and can resolve tough issues before they become building failures.

Expert Design

Curtain wall technology changes rapidly. New materials, new finishes, and new systems are constantly being introduced to the designer’s palette and can pose difficult value engineering alternatives. You need an expert on board who has been involved with the project evolution and can recommend expedient and prudent choices.

Technical Resources

Consultant familiarity with design solutions resulting from experience on hundreds of projects is like having a personal cladding resource library at your fingertips. CDC’s curtain wall consultants will provide decisive and definitive answers to your toughest technical questions.

Conflict Of Interest

Using a specialist consultant gets you an honest, independent answer, the best solution for your unique project. Answers obtained from curtainwall fabricators, suppliers, and installers can be influenced by sales, product availability, plant capacity or other limits, but CDC provides information that considers the best interests of your client and your project.

Preliminary Design Input

In the early stages of any project, CDC reviews the schematic architectural drawings that pertain to the external wall design for the project and makes recommendations concerning the various envelope systems that might be considered.

Another way CDC adds value to the project is we meet with the architect’s design team to review the performance and design parameters and /or constraints, and to coordinate the required work for the project.

Other services CDC includes are: develop and submit for review technical specification section for the enclosure wall; provide typical cladding details for support framing and joinery; and provides recommendation with regard to the need for a mock-up, its scope, and appropriate test criteria.

Submittal Review

CDC reviews shop drawings, structural calculations and technical data submissions for compliance, and highlights areas of technical weaknesses and issues that should be addressed prior to proceeding with construction.

Project Observation

Periodically, CDC provides quality assurance visits to the construction site to observe the building envelope installation process. Services generally include making observations and filing a daily field observation report to the client and follow-up with a photographic log detailing observations made. The photographic log is coordinated with the daily field logs, which are often required to obtain the longest warranty periods offered by product manufacturers.

Observation of Field Water Testing

CDC specifies and observes field water testing and subsequently provides a full, formal report of observations and recommendations based on the results of the test.

For over the 35 years, CDC has developed an exceptional working relationship with many architectural firms across the nation and around the world. Our experience and expertise in exterior building façade systems has built a reputation that prompts owners and architects to engage CDC early on a project. The collaboration between CDC and our client helps to provide consulting services in the planning states of a project to help eliminate any unforeseen problems before they become an issue in the construction phase.

Laboratory Mock-Up and Test ServicesIn collaboration with the architect, CDC will ensure that the contractor’s test program is properly planned and conducted according to the specified ASTM guidelines.

Review and comment on mockup drawings for technical merit, calculations, samples and other product information related to mockup components.

As part of our scope of services, CDC regularly attends, observes and witnesses the erection, pre-testing and final testing of mock-ups at the test lab facility.

Often CDC will provide a written report of observations and recommendations. CDC will also review and comment on the laboratory report and as-built mockup shop drawings.

Field Testing

As required by many project specifications, or by the contractor’s quality control program, CDC can provide field testing services for water infiltration in compliance with the ASTM guidelines. The test observation report is also a part of the testing service CDC performs.

CDC can observe and report on testing performed.

LEED ServicesLEED® stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and, according to the U.S. Green Building Council, is a rating system that measures the sustainability of a building. Architects, engineers, designers, landscape architects, construction managers, and government officials all use LEED® to develop sustainable buildings.

LEED® Accredited Professionals (LEED® AP) are building professionals (architects, engineers, designers, etc.) that have demonstrated their knowledge and understanding about green building practices and principals. CDC has on staff LEED® Accredited Professionals who are available to assist the client with meeting their green building goals.

Many projects that CDC has consulted on and provided other services for are LEED® certified buildings. Below is a list of just a few projects.

• U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Headquarters located in Denver, Colorado. Certified LEED® Gold

• Byron G. Rogers U.S. Courthouse located in Denver, Colorado. Certified LEED® Gold
