COMPETITIVE AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH PROGRAMME
Shared-cost RTD And Demonstration ProjectConcerted Action/Thematic Network
Proposal number: GTC1-2002-73009Project acronym: evithermProject full title: The European Virtual Institute for Thermal MetrologyDuration: 36 Months, starting at 01 January 2003
Project Co-ordinator: NPLContractors: ARC
CNR-IMGCLNEPTB
WP3 - To enable EVITherM to transfer knowledge to meet the needs of Industryand communicate effectively to different regions
Co-leaders : IMGC, Franco Pavese / PTB, Joachim Fischer
Objectives of WP3 (IMGC / PTB)
Dividing European manufacturers into industrial sectors with common thermo-physical needs and setting up representatives for each sector
Investigating the differing regional needs of the specified industrial sectors within Europe and developing mechanisms which will enable EVITherM to communicate
effectively to each region
Establishing regional platforms to facilitate access to EVITherM for SMEs in countries with languages different from English. The regional platforms will be
designed to encourage interested parties in eastern European countries that are applying for EC membership and countries outside the EC with languages different
from English to take an active part in EVITherM
Determining and implementing databases of information required by industry, other than the technology covered in WPs 4-9, such as manufacturers and suppliers of
thermal equipment and services and appropriate training sources throughout Europe
Assessing the need for specific Internet based training packages for selected industrial sectors and developing these where necessary. In addition, e-mail
based discussion groups will be developed to monitor the needs and views of all EVITherM users
Agenda WP3 , Monday, 17 May
10:00 Welcome, discussion of agenda (PTB)
10:15 Task 3.1 : Compile specific information needs
- presentations of the compilations of contacts and networks by sector coordinators each approx. 15 min (CERAM, DaimlerChrysler, DSM, EADS, Nestle, Testo, RGU, TC, …)
- discussion and harmonisation of next steps
13:00 lunch break
14:00 Task 3.2 : Define the needs of regional SMEs and of eastern European countries
- determine the form and content of regional platforms (SMU, IMGC) - preparation of report defining the regions (IMGC) D3.2, month 18
Task 3.3 : Compile region specific data
- compile best practice guides and file them by language (SMU, IMGC) - preparation of report defining form & content of regional platforms D3.3, month 20
Task 3.4 : Organise translation of the web site content into regional languages
- methods for phased insertion of data in the regional platforms (IMGC) D3.4
Agenda WP3, Monday, 17 May, continued
14:30 coffee break
15:00 Task 3.5 : Databases of manufacturers of thermal equipment and suppliers (not covered by databases in WP4 to 9), service providers associated with thermal technologies, training courses (TC, IPCF, NMi-VSL) D3.5 - Review of the compilation obtained so far
15:15 Task 3.6 : Implement a system of determining industry's needs for knowledge and training (UNIMI) - Definition of the industrial needs (according to the received questionnaires and the different contacts, RGU) - Feasibility of e-training - Development of training packages - Cost for the corresponding development of e-training - Diffusion of this e-training on the website (proposal of ATHENA)
15:45 Task 3.7 : Develop a newsletter and e-mail forum (TC, PLG) - Situation about the newsletter : publication of the first newsletter, editorial committee - Situation about the e-mail forum : construction of the first e-mail forum by ATHENA for evaluation
16:00 end of meeting

Tasks of Industry Sector Coordinators
Today : different approaches seen
Aim : Common strategy for all industry coordinators
What is to be done with the collected addresses ?Compile them in the common data templates ?Contact persons individually ?Central action of evitherm ?
Building up a network of contacts within the sector……Using dedicated “confidential” addresses ?Privacy problem ?
