2015  -‐  present

Intern  and  research  assistant  with  Howard  University’s  HIV/AIDS  Consortium  (HUHAC)  for  Dr.  Goulda  Downer

During  the  Winter  break  of  my  junior  year,  I  interned  with  Dr.  Goulda  Downer  -‐  a  celebrated  Doctor  and  assistant  professor  of  Medicine  at  Howard  University  in  Washington,  D.C.  The  purpose  of  my  experience  was  to  assist  Dr.  Downer  in  strengthening  the  clinical  workforce  dealing  with  HIV  within  the  DC  metropolitan  region  associated  with  Howard  University's  Capitol  Region  Training  Program.  This  federally  funded  program  required  conducting  requisite  research  and  subsequently  developing  resources  to  assist  in  training.  My  personal  projects  involved  research  identifying  the  correlation  between  intimate  partner  violence  (IPV)  and  the  HIV/AIDS  virus,  and  the  correlation  between  natural  disasters  and/or  global  catastrophes  and  how  they  affect  the  virus'  disparity.  Not  only  was  I  able  to  learn  via  research,  Dr.  Downer  graciously  allowed  me  to  participate  in  telephone  conferences,  medical  student  presentations,  and  webinars,  in  an  effort  to  expose  me  to  various  aspects  and  demands  of  the  medical  profession.
