COMPASSION FOR ONE ANOTHER, Pt. 2
“A Caring Place for You.”
We learned last week that Jesus thought that we are
known as genuine disciples of His if we love one
another.
We know that Jesus taught that loving God and loving
others as ourselves are most important in the thinking of Jesus.
We learned last week that as disciples of Christ we are to KNOW what He thought
and to LIVE what He taught.
This should change our thinking AND change our actions when it comes to loving
others.
Paul, the apostle of Jesus, got it.
The preeminence of love: 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, 13:
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a
clanging cymbal. If I
have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all
knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move
mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I
give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but
have not love, I gain nothing.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of
these is love.”
There is NO SUBSTITUTE for love in church.
1 John 4:16: “God is love.”
John continues, “and the one who abides in
love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
The description of love: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is
not proud. It is not rude, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. It always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres.”
agape love
The supreme example of agape love is God’s
love as seen in John 3:16.
This God type love will change our lives.
This God type love will change the lives of those
around us.
How can we love like this?
Romans 5:5, “because the love of God has
been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit
who was given to us.”
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
We have a choice to make every day.
Every hour.Every minute.
Deuteronomy 30:19 “I have set before you
life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both
you and your seed may have life.”
What are you going to sow?
Let’s choose to sow God type love and
experience the great harvest that God has
planned for us.
