India ABSTRACT Nasal passages form one of the chief sources of contact of the human with his environ- ment. Hence, it is natural that the mucosa of the area is the vicm of assault with mul- tudes of potenal allergens. Allergic rhinis is an inflammatory disease with worldwide prevalence of 10-40%. Clinically allergic rhini- s manifests as itching, sneezing, rhinorrhea, congeson and itchy eyes. Allergic rhinis is a disease with low mortality but significantly lowers the quality of life and funconing. Both oral and intranasal anhistamines are approved for the first-line treatment of aller- gic rhinis and both formulaons result in a reducon in symptoms and an improvement in quality of life. The following study was de- signed to assess the efficacy and safety of the azelasne nasal spray in comparison to levocetrizine in paents with allergic rhinis. Out of the 68 paents, 34 cases were treated with topical azelasne (group A), while remain- ing 34 with systemic levocetrizine (group B). The effects of an-allergic drugs have been studied on the basis of relief of symptoms and change in histopathology. Comparing the post therapy clinical and histopathological results in this study, azelasne nasal spray was found to be more effecve and safe in the treatment of al- lergic rhinis than levocetrizine.
