Target Market Mukusu is initially targeting farmers and farmer institutions cooperative societies in Northern and Eastern Uganda to hire agricultural equipment. While in other regions of Uganda, Mukusu targets to sell agricultural equipment and commercial vehicles to SACCOS and progressive farmers. During the pilot period we worked with 235 small-holder farmers owning 600 acres. These paid user fees to Mukusu but limited to first ploughing due to lack of crop finance. The evaluation process of the pilot project by the Dutch Consultant Egbert revealed that farmers who adopted mechanised ploughing; Saved 61 hours per
acre which was converted to farm expansion and livestock farming.
Registered a 50% increase in yields.
Potential to save 300 man hours per acre if all farm activities are
mechanised.
Social economic benefit We work with vulnerable farmers who are hardly targeted by our competitors. They only
benefit from the government mechanization incentive (import tax exemption on agricultural machinery) when they hire tractors from Mukusu.
