Company Profile
Toyoda Gosei celebrated its 70th anniversary in June 2019.
Since the company was founded in 1949, we have contributed to society
through the provision of automotive products that use rubber and plastics
technology under the company credo of “Boundless Creativity and Social
Contribution.” Today, we have 67 Group companies in 17 countries.
The automobile industry is currently facing a period of great transformation
with the advances in autonomous driving and electrification. Taking this huge
change as an opportunity, we formulated our mid-range business plan, the
Business Plan 2025, in May 2018 to respond flexibly and swiftly to changes in
the business environment and achieve sustainable growth in the future.
With the three pillars of
“Venture into innovation, new mobility,”
“Strategy for growing markets/fields,” and
“Innovative manufacturing at production sites”
and the power of all 40,000 employees working together, we aim to grow as a
global company that delivers satisfaction to customers worldwide through
safety, comfort, well-being and the environment.

Sensor functions to support autonomous driving are integrated in the radiator grille, the “face” of vehicles.
Knowledge cultivated in the fields of high polymers and LEDs and experience gained as a world leader in the development of blue LEDs are used to create practical and innovative new technology that will contribute to safety, comfort, well-being and the environment.
■ e-RubberNext-generation rubber that functions with electricity and mechanical force
Next-generation type of power semiconductors (electronic compo-nents that convert/control power). Using the gallium nitride (GaN) crystal growth technology cultivated in the development and production of LEDs, we are developing products that contribute to more efficient and smaller electronic devices.
Unprecedented light, soft “artificial muscle” (actuators) and sensors have been developed with the combination of Toyoda Gosei’s technical strengths in rubber and the materials patents of Advanced Softmaterials, Inc., a startup out of Tokyo University.
■ GaN power semiconductorsEnergy-saving key devices with the application of LED technology
To respond flexibly and swiftly to autonomous driving, electrification and other changes in automobiles, we are refining our core technical strengths in rubber and plastics, working collaboratively with customers and specialty manufacturers, and developing new products with a sense of urgency.

Toyoda Gosei is pursuing a focused strategy of expanding its airbag business to meet growing demand with stricter safety regulations worldwide; increasing its business in the rapidly growing Indian and Chinese markets; selecting and concentrat-ing management resources; seeking thorough efficiency; and pursuing the advantages of scale.
Process autonomation, labor reduction and kaizen are done with the use of IT (IoT, AI) and other cutting edge technologies.
We are expanding our business foundation in China, the world’s largest market. In 2018, we strengthened local functions by making our regional headquarters a holding company. This and other changes are helping us to build a network that can make rapid business decisions in the China region. We have also invested in a Chinese weatherstrip manufacturer.
Compact and energy-saving equipment will be used to reduce CO2 emissions during production. This leading-edge eco-plant is fitting as a plant producing a key component of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), which have been called the ultimate eco cars.
We are increasing competitiveness with the utilization of big data that differs in structure or type and is generated in real time. At our Morimachi Plant (Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan), we have made improvements to reduce defects in the appearance quality of weath-erstrips using technology to analyze this big data. Added to the experience accumulated by veteran workers, we are increasing the speed and accuracy of our process kaizen with the use of big data.
■ Building our network in China
The number of automobiles produced in India is rapidly increas-ing. In 2017 automobile impact safety performance tests became mandatory, and in 2020 India will make its domestic exhaust gas regulations stricter. Thus, we may expect growing demand for safety and environmental products.

Corporate Governance
Building and operating transparent management systems for
thorough Group-wide compliance
Internal controls in the Toyoda Gosei Group
Management Members (As of June 14, 2019)
The entire Toyoda Gosei Group is striving to en-hance corporate governance so that we can contin-ue as a trusted company of integrity. To build fair and transparent corporate governance systems, we are increasing the effectiveness of corporate man-agement monitoring and auditing by appointing outside directors and audit & supervisory board members, while also installing internal control sys-tems to ensure proper and efficient work. Our
efforts also include Group-wide compliance work-shops and questionnaires to gauge the level of inter-nalization so that all employees can perform their activities with strict legal compliance as well as a high sense of ethics. We also monitor risks that have potentially huge impact on business operations and conduct risk man-agement activities to prevent them.
To cultivate a healthy internal control environment at Toyoda Gosei and its subsidiaries, all Group com-panies share established Corporate Principles. The Toyoda Gosei Group Charter for Business Ethics, a shared guideline for compliance, has also been instituted and is spread to subsidiaries. While respecting the independence of subsidiary man-
agement, we receive regular business reports and set up systems to confirm the propriety and legality of subsidiaries’ businesses through advance approval reports. We also send part-time directors and audit & supervisory board members to key subsidiaries in a system to monitor and act as a check on their busi-ness execution.
