WHO WE ARE

Light is energy, heat, life. We have been working towards this with passion and desire for innovation since 1945, as we believe in growth and know that identity can only grow with tradition. Only in this way can we enjoy the history of success and achievements that sees us leading the Italian sector today, and present in the most important international markets.

1945.The Vimar adventure started in a former hat factory in Marostica, North-east Italy.The pear switch was launched before the 50s, causing Vimar to be known good heartedly as the “pear” factory for many years.

50s - 60s.Electrical installations evolve: from lighting points with glass discs to the first residential series, in por-celain and thermoplastic materials.

60s - 70s. Vimar patented the Sicury shutter, which prevents contact with live parts. It was made freely available to all manufacturers, becoming a regulatory standard.

80s.The concept of “total quality” was born, a new approach whose cornerstones are innovation of the production cycle, internal organisation, dialogue with the market and customer satisfaction.

2010 - 2011. Vimar is the official supplier for the Italian pavilion at the World Expo Shanghai: the company was chosen due to its leadership in the home automation sector and the manufacture of electric and electronic material.In 2011 Eikon Evo was born, and success came immediately. A veritable aesthetic and technological innovation, reconfirming Vimar’s leadership in the home automation sector and in the production of electrical and electronic materials.

2012. Vimar has acquired a majority stake in Elvox, a global player in the video entry systems, gate automation and CCTV market. The fusion has created the Vimar Group, an all-Italian enterprise with a comprehensive range of products, able to find solutions for home and buildings.

‘90 - 2000.New housing styles, with a more refined series, and home automation opening with By-me, the system that combines safety, comfort, energy-saving, control, communication and a video door entry system.

We want to create protected, comfortable environments, through products with intuitive functionality and unmistakeably Italian design. Our patents are the fruit of a research that aims to serve the common good: like Sicury, an idea that revolutionised the safety of electrical installations and the socket outlet protection system in 1968. We decided to make it freely available to all operators in the sector. From that day on, the life of parents and children was a little more serene

Separation, information and the creation of a culture. These are the pivotal principles of the Progetto Ambiente, an articulated programme applied across the entire production cycle. Beginning with correct waste separation, it actually allows 60% of plastic waste material and the majority of metal waste material to be recycled; Research & Development are then informed of any difficulties encountered when separating the various components, to ensure that the product is designed at the outset with the intention of being totally dismantled and recycled at the end of its life. We also provide departments with relevant information to ensure that waste is separated at source and all suitable material reused.

For years now our painting department has used only water-based or UV cross-linked paints, and we reuse the few residual solvents. This has allowed us to reduce atmospheric emissions of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) to under 50% of the limits set out by the strictest European standards.

Eliminating galvanic processesWe are progressively eliminating galvanic bath treatments for our metal finishes, replacing this highly polluting process with the innovative and greener MSD (Magnetron Sputtering Deposition) treatment, which uses physical rather than chemical principles to eliminate all harmful emissions. Argon ions are sputtered onto metal plates in a vacuum chamber, releasing atoms which are deposited on the product to create the required finish.

To promote easy disposal by our customers, all our packaging is 100% recyclable. The cardboard single product packs and containers are made from recycled materials. Our corrugated cardboard multi-product boxes for transportation are printed using water-based inks with no harmful substances and use only ecological glues.

Environmental sustainabilityDemonstrating how environmental sustai-nability is more than just a good idea, the 11,000 m2 of roofing on the company he-adquarters in Marostica is covered with a photovoltaic system with a guaranteed an-nual power production of 710,000 KWh, avoiding atmospheric emissions of 350,000 kg of carbon dioxide, 8,700 kg of sulphur dioxide, 6,800 kg of nitrogen oxide and 312 kg of particulate matter.
