Pipes

Pipe is a hollow tube with round cross section for the conveyance of products. The products include fluids, gas, pellets, powders and more. The word pipe is used as distinguished from tube to apply to tubular products of dimensions commonly used for pipeline and piping systems.

Types

1. ERW / Seamless

• Most Used is Carbon-steel pipe which is strong, ductile, weldable, machinable, reasonably, durable and isnearly always cheaper than pipe made from other materials. If carbon-steel pipe can meet therequirements of pressure, temperature, corrosion resistance and hygiene, it is the usual choice.

• Iron pipe is made from cast-iron and ductile-iron. The principal uses are for water, gas and sewage lines.• The principal uses for tube are in Heat Exchangers, instrument lines and small interconnections on

equipment such as compressors, boilers etc

Standards : API, IS

Dimensions

• Outer Diameter (MM) : ½” – 72”• Thickness : Schedule 10 to Schedule 160• Length : Upto 40ft

2. Lancing Pipes (Make Royal Steel Pipes Pvt Ltd)

• Removes the carbon from Molten Metal

• Used in Electric Arc Furnaces

• Reliable and economical means for tapping heats and other production operations

• End Finish & Protective: Oxygen Lance Pipe comes in a variety of end finishes and protective, which are desirable to prevent

contamination.

Standards : IS 10577

Dimensions • Outer Diameter (MM) : 6.0 MM to 33.7 MM• Thickness (MM) : 0.6 MM to 3.00 MM• Length : Upto 24ft

3. Lined Pipe

A pipe can be internally lined with material able to withstand chemical attack which permits it to carry corrosive fluids. Internal layers can be: glass, various plastics, concrete etc., also coatings, like Epoxy, Bituminous Asphalt, Zinc etc. These can help to protect the inner pipe and increase longevity.

Flanges

A flange is a method of connecting pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment to form a piping system. It also

provides easy access for cleaning, inspection or modification. Flanges are usually welded or screwed. Flanged joints

are made by bolting together two flanges with a gasket between them to provide a seal.

Most Used Types of Flanges • Welding Neck Flange

• Slip On Flange

• Socket Weld Flange

• Lap Joint Flange

• Threaded Flange

• Blind Flange

Flanges for Special Applications • Orifice Flanges

• Long Welding Neck Flanges

Valves Valves are mechanical devices that controls the flow and pressure within a system or process. They are essential

components of a piping system that conveys liquids, gases, vapors, slurries etc

Forged Valves • Gate

• Globe

• Check

• Ball

Industrial Valves • Gate

• Globe

• Check

• Ball

• Butterfly

• Plug

• Air Release

Speciality Valves • Knife Edge Gate Valve

• Slurry

• Conduit Gate Valve

• Diaphragm

• Steam Jacketed Plug

• Control

• Pressure Safety

• Pressure Relief

• Solenoid

Strainers • Y Type Srainers

• Basket Strainers

Each of these types has a number of models, each with different features and functional capabilities.

Functions from Valves are: • Stopping and starting flow• Reduce or increase a flow• Controlling the direction of flow• Regulating a flow or process pressure• Relieve a pipe system of a certain pressure

Regardless of type, all valves have the following basic parts: the body, bonnet, trim (internal elements), actuator, and packing. The basic parts of a valve are illustrated in the image on the right.

Sizes : 1/2” – 72”

Strainers

"Y" Type Strainers are named after their shape and normally used for course

filtration. The Strainer improves the clearance in the medium, and prolongs the

life of valves; protect expensive pumps, meters and other equipments. It is

suitable for water, Air, Gas, petroleum, steam and other fluids.

Basket Strainers are generally used where high flow capacity is required. The

basket Strainer is serviced by removing the cover, which yields access to the

basket. Basket Strainers are also available in a duplex style which consists of two

parallel basket Strainers and diverting valves, which permit diversion of the flow

through one of the Strainer elements while the other element is being serviced-an

essential feature where flow cannot be interrupted.

Class Ratings :Pressure-temperature ratings of Strainers are designated by class

numbers. 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500, 2500, and 4500 Strainers depending on

Flow Rates.

Sizes : 1/2” –24”

Material Of Construction : Cast Steel, Cast Iron, Stainless Steel, Alloy Steel, Carbon Steel Etc

End Connection : Depending on the type of Service and usage End Connections

can be BW, SW, Flanged and Threaded

FastenersIn Petro and chemical industry for flange connections Stud Bolts and Hex Bolts are used. The Stud Bolt is a

threaded rod with 2 heavy hexagon nuts, while the Hex Bolt has a head with one nut. Nuts and head are both six

sided.

Threads of Stud Bolts

Bolts threading are defined in ASME B1.1 Unified Inch Screw Threads, (UN and UNR Thread Form). Thread series

cover designations of diameter/pitch combinations that are measured by the number of threads per inch (TPI)

applied to a single diameter.

Standard Thread Pitches • Coarse thread series (UNC/UNRC) is the most widely used thread system and applied in most of

the screws, bolts and nuts. Coarse threads are used for threads in low strength materials such as iron, mild steel, softer alloy, etc. The coarse thread is also more tolerant in adverse conditions and facilitate quick assembly.

• Fine thread series (UNF/UNRF) is commonly used in precision applications and in there whererequire a higher tensile strength than the coarse thread series.

• 8 - Thread series (8UN) is the specified thread forming method for several ASTM standardsincluding A193 B7, A193 B8/B8M, and A320. This series is mostly used for diameters one inch and above.

Hex Nuts Hex nuts (dimensional data) are defined in ASME B18.2.2

Depending on a customer specification, nuts must be both sites chamfered or with on one side a washer-face.

Materials for Stud Bolts

Frequently used grades are A193 for thread rods and A194

for the nuts.

ASTM A193 covers alloy and stainless steel bolting material

for pressure vessels, Valves, flanges, and fittings for high

temperature or high pressure service, or other special purpose applications.

ASTM A194 covers a variety of carbon, alloy, and martensitic and austenitic stainless steel nuts. These nuts are

intended for high-pressure or high-temperature service, or both.

Cast Basalt Fittings

AboutCast basalt products are produced by melting, reshaping and cooling of suitable natural rocks, especially olivine basalts. products include tiles, pipes (inserts), adapting pipes and other special castings.Tiles : floors of buildings, mechanically loaded floors of industrial buildings including exteriors; floors resistant to chemical agents, oil products etc.Pipes (inserts): suitable for hydraulic and pneumatic stowing and in general for transport of variety of abrasive materials.Special castings: Bends, Branch Pipes, Tee, Laterals

General CharacteristicsThese products are distinguished for their high abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, they are not liquid-absorbing and they have a considerable compression strength. cast basalt can be used up to 400°C unless it is used in a chemically corrosive ambient and without occurence of larger thermal fluctuation. A slow heating up to operating temperature is also necessary.Surface quality of Basalt products must not have defects, which could affect their function during the use determined. Cracks of basalt products are identified by hammering such that the product without cracks must produce a clear sound. At least 95 % of products should be free from visible defects, which could affect surface quality of the Tiles and Inserts, and they must meet requirements for sampling (as per EN ISO 10545).

A 1. The products are indicated by inside diameter d, radius R and central angle (α).

A 2. The mass of the products is according to the formula M = 1,623 10-7 R t (d+t) α. This mass is only approximate, because the actual mass can differ within the tolerances for dimensions.
