All engineering students must participate in Summer practice I and II- Summer Practice I (COMP291): At the
end of 2nd year.- Summer Practice II (COMP391): At
the end of 3rd year. Each practice must be at least 20
work days
Summer Practice I and II
The practice should be performed in- A department with a computer engineering
emphasis The practice must be supervised by a
engineer Students are recommended to be exposed
to- Programming- Project management- Testing- Research and development
Where to do summer practice?
It is your responsibility to find a company But KU career office may help
(https://career.ku.edu.tr/)- They provide the list of companies that KU
students have done summer practice before
- They sometimes have quota for certain companies such as TAI, Aselsan, etc.
- They also help you about preparing CV, cover letter etc.
Some faculty members may also have personal contact in some companies.
How to find a company?

How to find a company?
You must have approval of your advisor
- Better to have his/her approval before starting the summer practice
- You can also get approval after the practice but it is not guaranteed!
You can get approval by e-mail.

signature from Ozge Armagan Celik
Letter about SGK payments (SGK priminin universite tarafindan odenecegine dair yazi)- Download, fill out and use it. No signature is
required

Documents required by companies
KU HR requires the following documents to complete SGK procedure- Internship form (stajer bilgi formu)

- Acceptance letter from the company with the start and end dates.
- Xerox copy of ID card (nufus cuzdani)

for any questions.

You must have your supervisor filled out and signed the evaluation form (Degerlendirme Formu)

Go to “Practical Training Evaluation Forms:”

Return it to Ozge Armagan Celik
• In a sealed envelope (preferred-make sure you hand in Ozge Hanim, don’t slide under the door)

There must be five sections:-Introduction-Description of company-Work/project summary-Conclusions-Appendix
How to write the report?
You must submit it electronically to the turnitin system (http://www.turnitin.com/)
Paraphrase sentences or properly cite everything you take from other resources including web pages.
Turnitin also checks the previous summer practice reports!

Q: Can I complete my SP at a non-CS company
A: Yes, assuming your department does CS-related work
Q: Can I complete 291 and 391 in the same semester
A: No. Only allowed under exceptional circumstances (no guarantees).
Q: Does research at an academic setting count?
A: No.
Q: What if I am dual majoring with only one major in engineering
A: ENGR 291 & 391 in engineering major
Q: What if I have two engineering majors
A: ENGR 291 & 391 in either engineering major (both in one OK)
