There’s plenty that sets The University of Texas at Tyler apart from the other seven universities in the prestigious University of Texas System. Not only do we rank among the highest in the entire system for students graduating on time, but our students graduate with some of the highest starting salaries and lowest loan amounts—meaning you get quality education at an exceptional value.   From cancer treatments to statewide political polling, undergraduate students have unique opportunities to conduct research that truly impacts lives in East Texas and beyond.   Our close-knit campus community will be here for you. We understand that college is one of the best and most challenging times in your life, which is why we have teams of academic, financial and student support experts here to help you every step of the way.  All of that, plus more than 200 acres of fun: forests filled with hiking and biking trails and two lakes for canoeing, fishing and chilling. All that’s missing is you.

WE ARE TOO.

“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to visit

Italy and Greece and to have had the opportunity

to explore and witness the monumental sites upon

which their literature and culture is based. It was an eye-opening experience of the diversity between

cultures around the world.”

GAVIN D.Class of 2020

“It is hard to fathom, in the grand scheme of history,

that a critical moment in the development of Western

political thought started in Socrates’ martyrdom for justice and the laws. My

future research and career choice exist because of the events that occurred in his

life and during his final days in his jail cell.”uttyler.edu/preprofessional

Be a part of research that is...

At UT Tyler, you will have opportunities to work alongside your professors in groundbreaking research as early as your freshman year.

Mechanical engineering students work with Dr. Mohammed Biswas to develop systems for NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

LIFE-CHANGING

HEARTFELT

Electrical engineering majors assist Dr. Premananda Indic in designing wearable biosensors to detect life-threatening illnesses in newborns.

Health and kinesiology students participate in Dr. Benjamin Tseng’s research in the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation.

ARTHUR F.Class of 2019

“Working with Professor Mena Souliman to design a bicycle lane network for Tyler was exciting because

my goal as an engineer is to make a positive impact in the community around me. This research project will impact the city for years to come.”

Beyond the classroom, many students at The University of Texas at Tyler are asking questions, finding answers and contributing to advancements in their fields of interest through undergraduate research and discovery.

By participating in research, you will help solve real-world problems while gaining valuable insight into your chosen field and building skills that employers seek including critical thinking, trouble shooting, communication and collaboration.

Take part in the innovative endeavors with professors like Dr. Dustin Patterson in biochemistry, who is developing cell-specific drug delivery strategies in the fight against cancer; or Dr. Nelson Fumo in mechanical engineering, who is working to increase the energy efficiency of residential air conditioning systems. Delve into psychology research with Dr. Amy Hayes on subjects such as the interaction between emotional intelligence, gender and academic achievement.

Presidential FellowshipsFor incoming freshmen, UT Tyler awards full tuition, room and board, as well as books for a select group of high-achieving students. This completive fellowship is awarded by holistic review, so get your essay ready, practice your interview, polish your SAT, and remember to apply by December 1 to be eligible.
