area is mainly White Caucasian people. However it has now had a lot more mixed crowd

being present weather it is for work or being students at the university of Northampton.

Community housing

Eastfield has had many reviews involving the community, government and also the local

councillor for the main area that is targeted. There are many concerns about the housing

in the local Eastfield area, the housing in this particular area has many targeted sections

that the local government have plans on for changing to benefit the area and the

community as a whole

Latest reviews for the community was to have funding from a private sector to improve

the community housing, however this was later re planned by the government due to

changes for the area. The government’s large spending review has been a huge

disappointment to the council. Councillor Brian Hoare has openly spoken about this topic

and has said he is not going to deny that he is disappointed about the Private finance

initiative being re planned and being scrapped by the government, he has gone on to

explain how the Private Finance initiative is complex and somewhat and difficult and

how there was not many supporters. But feels hugely disappointed and he strongly feels

their contributions would help the area and improve the housing in Eastfields immensely.

He is now very confident that the things that have been done and the money that has been

invested will not be wasted, as a whole they now know what needs to be done within that

area.

Councillor Sally Beardsworth, Northampton Borough Councils cabinet member for

housing said “I am totally, totally devastated for the people who live in these areas.

These are their homes that we were trying to improve. They are my main concern at this

moment in time."

The government and councilor are very keen on making sure that all the member of the

community are aware of all changes that are being made to the area, allowing them to

feel very involved.

The thoughts of the local members of Eastfield

The majority of people I interviewed about this area had a lot of opinions that they would

like to express. The majority of people I asked said “ the area is a bit of an

disappointment to Northampton as it isn’t the best area, they also explained how the area

attracted many young teenagers that wondered around the area” Many people whom I

interviewed didn’t have the best review for the area and expressed how any improvement

would be the best for the area. A site that expressed other opinions from locals had also

expressed how they feel that all the elderly people whom live around the area would be

forced to move out of their own homes and be forced to move in to bed sits. Another

opinionated woman explained how after many years of neglect the area needed much

work done to meet all individuals needs whether they are old young or elderly, “ every

ones needs need to be met and work needs to be done”

Eastfields Crime rate

Although the crime rate has decreased it hasn’t yet been completely solved and resolved

and still remains in Eastfields. The average number of vehicle crime has decreased from

12.7 to 5.3 ( 57.9%)

Sep Oct Nov Average

2009 10 13 15 12.7

2010 8 3 5 5.3

The graph below shows the amount of vehicle crime that has taken place at Northampton

within the last 12 months.

8/6/2019 Community Profile[1]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/community-profile1 5/7

There is not only vehicle crime that has to be focused on in Northampton as other crimes

have been established in the area such as ;

NORTHAMPTON COUNCIL AVERAGE

Population 202,800 -

Households 89,000 -

Burglary 17.1 11.0

Criminal damage 25.7 17.0

Drug offences 3.6 4.0

Fraud and forgery 4.4 3.0

Offences against vehicles 16.0 11.0

Other offences 1.7 1.0

Other theft offences 26.0 20.0

Robbery 2.5 1.0

Sexual offences 2.1 1.0

Violence against the person 19.1 16.0

The advantage of knowing all the above updates allows all locals to be aware of certain

crimes that are present in certain areas. It is available for all those whom are interested in

the local areas. The crime ratings are now even widely available on socialising sites such

as www.twitter.com were all followers can be kept up to date on this site.

Positive changes within the community

From above comments from locals from the community have expressed one of the main

concern was with having many teenagers “hanging around the streets”, an issue that

worried and concerned many people around the area. However was this due to not having

anything or anywhere to go to while being bored or having nothing to do?. Brian Hoare

the local councilor has strained that as a whole the community is very aware of what the

community is indeed of and will be working strongly together to make sure that all the

right steps are now taken. The first step that has been taken is opening up a new play trail

built in Eastfiel park which was later opened on the 12 th April by the Mayor of

 Northampton.

The park offers all children from all ages to visit the park and to be involved in the park,

the community is hoping with such a positive area for children of ages to go to will

decrease the number of children hanging around on the streets. The park has many things

to offer from climbing net, basket swing, multi- pondo, huge area for children to choose

to play sports and a zip- wire. All the above has been possible due to 50,000 which has

been funded from the Play builders fund. Northampton has had a small break through as

it is the first area in Northampton to be able to secure a safe funding for the benefits of

children, schools and families. The council wanted to maintain the involvement of all the

the locals around the area, and to make sure they had the suggestions on what the

children of Eastfield would benefit from the most at the park. Once they had obtained

enough information they went ahead to build a area were it was a safe and happy

astrosphere for both children and older adults.

Councilor Trini Crake, Northampton Borough Council Cabinet Member for Environment

has explained how she is very pleased that that Northampton has opened such a great

park for all children of all ages to go to and have the chance to socialise with others of the

same age. She has also explained how she is grateful that things have been put into place

to meet not only the children/teenagers but also local residents.

Bernard Kelly members of Eastfields friends, has gone on to explain how Eastfields has

been crying out for such a great investment like the one they have received. He has also

viewed that children/teenagers and also local residents have all been very positive about

the new play park and find it has made a immense change for the area.
